Gallery: A send-off reception for USNA Midshipmen & The Basic School Marines pending assignment to Japan
On April 16, the Defense Attaché office of the Embassy of Japan hosted a reception at the Japanese Ambassador’s Residence in Washington, D.C. to send off 36 US Naval Academy Midshipmen and 24 The Basic School Marines who are being posted to Japan. The Midshipmen are headed to Yokosuka and Sasebo and The Basic School Marines will be stationed at Okinawa and Iwakuni. We wish the new service members the best as they begin their careers. JUMP Spotlight Series: Enjoy Okinawan Music with Gary Williams
In the most recent installment of our JUMP Spotlight Series, we interviewed Gary Williams (pictured far right), a former Junior NCO with the U.S. Army who served in Okinawa from 1968-1971. Williams is a self-taught taiko drummer and currently performs with Okinawa performing arts groups in Washington, D.C. and Virginia Beach. Regarding performing in front of others, he says: "I want to show them how much fun this culture is and to be proud of their roots, or for those who are not from Okinawa, to learn about this beautiful culture." Upcoming YCAPS-JUMP Seminars
