Mrs. Akie Abe was the special guest for a JUMP lunchheld at Ambassador Shinsuke Sugiyama’s residence in Washington D.C. on June 7. Mrs. Abe was joined by military spouse JUMP members representing the four branches of service. Ambassador James Zumwalt, CEO of Sasakawa USA, gave a short presentation about JUMP, highlighting the program’s efforts to help connect service members and their families who have served in Japan. YCAPS JUMP members tour the Diet Building
On May 28, 2018, Yokusuka Council on Asia-Pacific Studies (YCAPS) members and guests received a
tour of the Diet Building (Kokkai-gijidō) and participated in a brief question and answer session with Minister Shigeru Ishiba. Prior to the tour, the participants enjoyed a working lunch. YCAPS Special Advisor Mike Bosack provided a presentation on the history and the mechanics of the Diet, as well as postwar Japanese domestic politics in general and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in particular. Bosack’s presentation was titled, “From Itō to Abe: A Primer on Diet Politics.”
JUMP reception planned at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans on July 26
Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA, the National Association of Japan America Societies, and the Japan Society of New Orleans are co-hosting a
reception at the National World War II Museum on July 26, 2018. Lieutenant General Wallace "Chip" Gregson Jr., U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.), will be the principal speaker. Lt. Gen. Gregson served as Commander, U.S. Forces Japan, from 2001-2003.

Washington D.C. JUMP members met up on Sunday, June 24, to socialize and to cheer on the Samurai Blue in a
World Cup match against Senegal. Japan tied the game, 2-2.
The Consulate General of Japan in Miami is hosting JUMP members in Tampa tonight for a
reception with traditional Japanese food. The Honorable Ken Okaniwa, Consul General of Japan, will make a presentation.
