NAMI'S STATEMENT ON RECENT RACIST INCIDENTS
May 29, 2020 - The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) today released the following statement from CEO Daniel H. Gillison, Jr., regarding recent racist incidents across the country and their impact on mental health:

“The effect of racism and racial trauma on mental health is real and cannot be ignored. The disparity in access to mental health care in communities of color cannot be ignored. The inequality and lack of cultural competency in mental health treatment cannot be ignored.

NAMI Family & Friends (presented by NAMI NJ and NAMI Somerset) is a free seminar that informs people who have loved ones with a mental health condition how to best support them. It’s also an opportunity to meet other people in similar situations and gain community support. Led by trained people with lived experience of supporting a family member with a mental health condition, the seminar includes topics such as:

  • Understanding diagnoses, treatment and recovery
  • Effective communication strategies
  • The importance of self-care
  • Crisis preparation strategies
  • NAMI and community resources

Participants will receive a free e-book after the presentation!
NAMI NJ ONLINE SUPPORT GROUPS

The following two groups are being offered online, using the Zoom platform:
NAMI Family Support Group
Tuesdays at 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
Wednesdays at 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Thursdays at 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm 

NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group
Tuesdays at 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Wednesdays at 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
Wednesdays at 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

NAMI Family Support Group  is a 60 minute support group for adult friends and family members (18+) of people with mental health conditions. Participants gain support from peers who understand their experience and gain insight into others’ challenges and successes.

JOIN OR SUPPORT OUR WALK TEAM
On Sat. Sep.26, 2020, the NAMI Sussex walk team will be participating in the NAMI NJ Walk on the boardwalk at Seaside Park. The Walk  is a fun, family-friendly, wheelchair-friendly event and an excellent way to let your voice be heard! Please register as a walker, or a "virtual walker" if you can't walk with us, or support our team with a donation (any amount is appreciated), and help us raise funds so we can continue to offer free programs, courses and support groups.

NAMI BASICS ON DEMAND
NAMI Basics is a 6-session education program for parents, caregivers and other family who provide care for youth (ages 22 and younger) who are experiencing mental health symptoms. NAMI Basics is available online through  NAMI BASICS ON DEMAND .

This program is guided by parents and family members with lived experience,is self-paced and available 24/7.
