We are pleased to announce the DCAB's 2023 Disability Access Conference which is a virtual conference on Zoom. The two-day conference will focus on the Fair Housing Act's Design and Construction Requirements for Accessibility.


Guest speakers include Rex J. Pace, Senior Advisor for Accessible Design at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity; John Rife Torkelson, founder of the accessibility consulting firm theACCESSpartnership, and Bill Hecker, Accessibility Consultant at Hecker Design, LLC.


Join this team of experienced accessibility specialists from the private and public sector for an intermediate to advanced training on the design and construction requirements of the Fair Housing Act.


This training is intended for professionals and advocates in the design and construction industry. It will provide technical specifications in sufficient depth to engage practitioners in a series of in-depth 1.5-hour training sessions. Key residential design issues and potential accessibility pitfalls will be analyzed offering practical information that can be applied immediately to multi-family housing projects.

SESSION 1: 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. (Pending 1.5 HSW/CEU AIA credit approval)

  • Overview of FHA Act
  • Safe Harbors


BREAK: 9:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.


SESSION 2: 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. (Pending 1.5 HSW/CEU AIA credit approval)

  • Requirement 1 (Accessible building entrances on accessible routes)
  • Requirement 2 (Accessible public and common use areas)



DAY 2 - JUNE 30, 2023



SESSION 3: 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. (Pending 1.5 HSW/CEU AIA credit approval)

  • Requirement 3 (Usable doors)
  • Requirement 4 (Accessible routes into and through dwelling units)
  • Requirement 5 (Light switches, outlets, and other environmental controls in accessible locations)


BREAK: 9:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.


SESSION 4: 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. (Pending 1.5 HSW/CEU credit approval)

  • Requirement 6 (Reinforced walls in bathroom for grab bars)
  • Requirement 7 (Usable kitchens and bathrooms)

Ensuring the protection of the government workforce and public is essential for continued operation and service to the public.

  • No weapons or explosives are permitted on property (HAR Chapter 3-111).


Entry into the building may require:

  • Photo identification


For your protection:

  • Face coverings are optional while in the building.
  • Be respectful to other's concerns for social distancing while in the building.


If you have a cold, runny nose, sore throat, muscle aches or fever, please do not enter the facility. Contact a medical facility or your physician.
