Once a year, our Chapter competes as a team.
This year, we will once again compete against one of our sister Chapters, LPGA Amateurs Hampton Roads, in match play at the Kingsmill Plantation course on Sunday, July 16.
Last year, we brought home the trophy, so I am sure Hampton Roads will be hungry for a win. To defend our trophy, we need members of all handicap index levels to represent our Chapter during match play against Hampton Roads on the July 16.
For those who are unfamiliar with match play, in simple terms, two of our Chapter members acting as a team compete against two Hampton Roads members acting as a team. All players in the foursome will have a similar registered handicap. Each team will vie to win a point at each hole. The team with the highest number of points wins the match. The Chapter that accumulates the most points wins.
In the lead up, we have scheduled a couple of events for any members wishing to become more familiar with match play. Members playing at Lake Monticello on June 24th can either play individual stroke play or a practice match play round to become more familiar with match play scoring. In addition, Janet Phillips, Golf Professional and our Chapter Ambassador, will be educating us on the difference between individual stroke play and match play during an optional Zoom call to be scheduled during early July.
Ask any member who played last year. This is a very fun event for members of all experience and skill levels. Everyone enjoys the competition and camaraderie between our Chapters.
I hope you will join us on July16 for a challenging and entertaining round of golf.

See you on the course!

We have many upcoming golf opportunities and a recap of last month's golf events below.
We look forward to having you "tee it up" with us soon!
There are some players who have had questions regarding the rules of golf, especially with the new RCC option. USGA is a great resource for rules and can be downloaded as an app on your phone. Please check out the new "Rules Corner" in this newsletter.
If you come across a situation on the course and are not sure of the rules, take pictures and let us know how you proceeded. This can be an opportunity for everyone to learn

It's great being on a team and have a share in the camaraderie!
Included is a post round gathering and meal to be held in the James River ballroom. Mark your calendars and sign up. We had a blast last year so please join us for a great experience at a great venue!

How to establish your handicap
|
Whether you are new to golf or to our Chapter, we encourage all members to establish and maintain a handicap index. Your handicap index represents your playing ability, and it is an easy way to track your progress over a season or a lifetime. It also puts you on an even “playing field” when competing in organized events, such our match play event scheduled with the LPGA Amateurs - Hampton Roads Chapter on July 16th in Williamsburg.
There is a nominal annual fee to establish and maintain a handicap index and be assigned a GHIN number (your personal identification number). We suggest you consider one of these options to establish a handicap index:
-
Sign up through the Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA). All VSGA membership options include handicap indexing. This membership is separate from your LPGA Amateurs Chapter membership and provides other benefits, OR
- Sign up at a local golf course affiliated with the VSGA

Let's celebrate our golf milestones!
|
Some of our members have recently achieved some great things on the golf course, like Laura Posey’s eagle or Felicia Perry’s 60 foot putt at Providence!
Let’s share and celebrate our accomplishments, whether it’s an amazing shot, closest to the pin, best score, or you’ve reached a personal goal such as Christii Watkins shaving 4 points off her handicap over the last 6 weeks!
Share your story – whether it’s your own or that of a fellow member – along with a photo, the course name, and hole # where it took place (if applicable) to our Membership Director, Nancy Anderson,

May Event: Kiskiack Golf Club
|
The greens were tough and quite fast at Kiskiack Golf Club, but 21 members were up to the challenge. Many honored Mother's Day with pink golf attire and afterwards we shared a delicious cake to celebrate National Golf Day.
Kiskiack was also our first optional round of RVA Capital Cup play. A BIG THANKS goes out to Natalie Dalton for her expert assistance. Current standings are available on our website.

May Event: Mystery Bus Adventure
|
Our maiden voyage of the Mystery Bus Adventure was a huge success, and we had a blast. A total of 20 members played the scenic Old Trail Golf Club in Crozet. The fairways were in great condition...greens were pristine…the views were incredible! Kiki Worthington was a great help marshalling the course and taking photos.
CONGRATS: Ellen Moseley won CTP on Hole #9, edging out Wanda Fisher.

Each year the LPGA Amateur Golf Association hosts an amateur match play competition we often refer to as “the Cup”. We've had Cup teams the last two years and it's a bunch of fun! ALL handicap levels are welcome. It's match play (like the Kingsmill event) and you try to win a hole and then start over at the next hole and try to win that hole!
Regional Cup Qualifier: September 15-16th. Play 1 day with your partner & 1 day single match play. Chesapeake Bay Golf Club in Rising Sun, MD
The Cup Finals for teams that advance: October 20-21st: RTJ Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley, Birmingham, AL. (fyi - this is same date as Wintergreen)
- We are actively soliciting interest from chapter members who may wish to compete on our Cup team. Each team is comprised of 8 players & 2 alternates.

RULES CORNER - Rule 17: Penalty Areas
|
|
|
Members commonly ask about their options and how to score when their ball lands in a yellow
or red penalty area where a ball is often lost or unable to be played. Rules 17 addresses these
situations.
Did you know the USGA provides a hub of videos that explain these special situations? Watch this video to better understand Rule 17 and your options when landing in a yellow or red penalty
area.

Promote Your Business In The
LPGA Amateurs Member Marketplace
|
|
You may be wondering why we are focused on promoting the LPGA Amateurs Member Marketplace? It is simple…the more offers that are listed in the Member Marketplace the more benefits are available for all members AND for those members who own their own business the Member Marketplace is another opportunity to provide a benefit from the LPGA Amateur Golf Association.
Businesses that add a benefit to the LPGA Amateurs Member Marketplace will receive marketing to all 13,000+ LPGA Amateurs members through the Marketplace at NO charge! Benefits can be listed either in your local Chapter area or as Association-wide benefits. Both golf and non-golf related businesses can list their benefits, the only requirement is that the benefit is specific for the LPGA Amateurs membership.
It is simple to sign up!
If you need more information about the program, then please contact Liz Cooper at liz.cooper@lpga.com. If you are ready to register your business, please click on the link below. Pleas make sure our chapter is selected as the referring Chapter!
