M2K Alumni Featured during National Tooling U/SME Event

Terry C. an alumni of the MANUFACTURING 2000 (M2K) program joined panelists to discuss his career pathway from M2K pre-apprentice, placement with partner company True Position, and his journey through registered apprenticeship. The panel, “Fostering Diversity in Manufacturing: Creating an Inclusive Talent Pipeline”, featured Terry, Jason Spudic, VP of True Position, and Neil Ashbaugh, President/CEO of New Century Careers, was hosted on June 4th as part of the TuX manufacturing summit held in Pittsburgh by Tooling U/SME. Terry’s compelling story focused on the challenges and barriers he faced as he entered into his M2K pre-apprenticeship, then being placed with True Position, to his successful earning of his Journey Worker papers and becoming the lead CNC programmer for his company. NCC congratulates Terry for his commitment to pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship, and his desire for continuing education and learning experiences with True Position. Want to be like Terry?

Shares Valuable Resources for Local Manufacturers

NCC joined manufacturers and other workforce development agencies in the region as Jennifer Gilburg, Deputy Secretary of Technology and Entrepreneurship, PA Department of Community and Economic Development shared the PA Commonwealth’s 10-year strategic plan to build and enhance the economy focused on Agriculture, Energy, Life Sciences, Manufacturing, and Robotics and Technology. The event, hosted by the Westmoreland-Fayette WIB’s Manufacturing Industry Partnership, highlighted the new website “Pennsylvania Gets It Done” and shares details in how our regional manufacturers will receive support and resources through this website. NCC applauds the efforts of the PA DCED and welcomes new innovations and ideas that will support resources for our advanced manufacturers.

Solar Punk Future 2024: Bridging Art, Sustainability, and Careers

Solar Punk Future 2024 returned to Pittsburgh's South Side on June 29th, transforming Velum Fermentation into a vibrant showcase of interactive art, innovation, and sustainability. This unique event, part interactive art show and part job fair, inspired a collective vision of a greener, more sustainable future. Attendees enjoyed captivating performances, engaging exhibits, mesmerizing art installations, and thought-provoking discussions, offering opportunities for all ages and backgrounds to explore the possibilities of a sustainable future.

Organized by New Sun Rising, BOOM Concepts, The Climate Reality Project, Sustainable Pittsburgh, and others, the event aimed to address climate challenges with a hopeful vision. The event was supported by sponsors like Pittsburgh Regional Transit, Duquesne Light, Green Mountain Energy, and the Heinz Endowments.
