Hi Friends!
Welcome to our June Social Dance Newsletter! As we move into the summer months, let's get out on the dance floor. Whether you've danced for years or are trying out a new skill for the first time, Glen Echo Park is your dance partner!
Sunday, June 7, do-si-do and swing your partner while celebrating Pride at an afternoon Bumper Car Squares dance in the climate-controlled Ballroom Backroom! Let's have a grand old time at a rousing Pride square dance invigorated by music from the Bach Bui Trio with caller Katie Stahl. All are welcome! Also on the 7th, Ballroom Time presents a ballroom dance with live music by OLDE VIENNA.
Sarau de Samba, co-presented with EducArte, is a celebration of rich Afro-Brazilian samba tradition and culture, where the infectious rhythms of Rio de Janeiro come alive through live music, dance, and food, and joyful participation. Sunday, June 7, we'll meet in the open-air, covered Bumper Car Pavilion with special table reservations available, along with our usual general admission. The Churrasco: Brazilian BBQ will be on site, selling authentic Brazilian espetinhos (grilled skewers) and our very own Praline Café will sell Brazilian drinks and snacks, including salgadinhos (Brazilian snacks) from Americas Supermarket.
For more than a decade, summer at Glen Echo Park has been synonymous with our FREE Thursday night Summer Concert Series. Each week, we present local musicians and performers who represent a diverse range of styles, influences, and cultures. These wonderful musicians are here to have fun! Dancers are always welcome to get up out of their seats and move to the incredible music. 2026 Summer Concerts kick off Pride Month in June, with DC's Different Drummers, an LGBTQ+ community music organization bringing their 25 piece big band to the Park! Next, celebrate Juneteenth with Kid Creole and the Coconuts tribute band "I am your Daddy Band" on June 18th.
Get out on the dance floor and two step the night away! Friday, June 19, enjoy a Honky Tonk Dance with Dede & the Do-Rights, a Baltimore-based band that plays a mix of vintage country and early rock 'n' roll, often described as "Rock 'n' Roots Country". Known for high-energy, danceable performances, they are a staple in the local honky-tonk scene. A free beginner lesson in two step is included with admission, led by Diana Nevills from the Church of Honky Tonk.
Join the celebration at Salsa & Bachata y más! On Friday, June 19, we'll start the evening off with open level lessons in Salsa & Bachata taught by Amber Logan, Kat Boroday, Tyrone Barnes, and James Robertson, followed by dancing with DJ Sidekick. This series, hosted by Amber Logan, meets on the third Friday of the month in the Ballroom Back Room, open to all levels of Latin dance experience.
Saturday, June 27, enjoy a Flamenco performance at the Park, featuring Furia Flamenca Dance Company with live music! Cueva Flamenca de Glen Echo is an immersive tablao‑style evening inspired by the legendary caves of Sacromonte. Savor the experience with tapas and sangría available for purchase, creating the warmth and conviviality of a true Andalusian night.
In addition to our fabulous social dance events, Glen Echo Park also hosts social dance classes in a variety of styles at various levels. Browse the Mindful Movement & Dance Technique section of the catalog to find classes that introduce you to new styles or improve your technique in styles you already love!
