JUNE NEWSLETTER

Hello Friends...

I hope you're enjoying the warm weather, wherever you are, as summer has officially arrived. For many of us, we're experiencing much warmer temperatures as we find ourselves in the throes of the first heat wave of the season. Please keep an eye on not only your pets, but stray animals and wildlife. If you're able, put out a bowl of water on porch or walkway...it could be lifesaving for birds, bees, squirrels and chipmunks.

This month we've been working with one of our fellow air transport organizations for the first time, though we wish it was under different circumstances. We've admired them for quite sometime and flying with them has been so rewarding. You can read more about this story in Featured Flights.

Since one or two trips are likely on everyone's calendar, our blog post this month highlights rescue dogs now serving as conservation dogs within our national and state parks, as well as public lands. It includes some little known facts and showcases some of the incredible work these dogs are doing. Give it a read!

If you're following our work, like what we're doing, and want to help us continue flying our four-legged friends, we would be so grateful for your support! You can make a donation here.

Or...if you'd like to know more about how you can join the team, either as a partner or sponsor, please let me know! I'd love to hear from you.

STAY COOL OUT THERE!

FEATURED FLIGHT

Two weeks ago, tornadoes cut a destructive path across a handful of states, leaving a wide wake of disaster. Among those affected were our friends at Dog is My CoPilot.

On Thursday night, we received a call from Cathy Bissell telling us that The Sequel, a Cessna belonging to Dog is My CoPilot was severely damaged at an airport in Addison, TX. Thankfully, no pilots or animals were on the plane, as it was awaiting a scheduled flight the following day.

Upon hearing of this heartbreaking situation, our amazing partners, Bissell Pet Foundation reached out to see if we might be able to help them take over some of their flights and ensure the animals in struggling Texas shelters could make their way to safety. We didn’t hesitate!

The pics below are just a few of the sweet dogs and cats we flew from Sugar Land, TX to Danbury, CT, who have their opportunity for a new life after all.

As we find ourselves in the grip of an early, and already devastating, storm season….please help communities and shelters overwhelmed by natural disasters when, and if, you’re able. They can have long-lasting effects on people and their pets, and sometimes all they’re left with is each other.

Seeing our community come together to support each other, as well as our missions, is incredibly special for us. If you can help by providing a donation toward the flights, and ensure these pets find a safe place and a fresh start, we would be so thankful.

THIS MONTH'S BLOG POST

As spring gives way to summer, schools let out for three sun filled months, and vacation plans are made, state and national parks prepare for their busy season, as many of them will be destinations for outdoor enthusiasts, traveling families and weekend visitors. Parks are particularly popular with those who want to enjoy the great outdoors with their four-legged companions, and with 429 national park sites and 6,792 state parks across the U.S., opportunities for adventure are plentiful. As park popularity continues to grow since COVID, other opportunities are increasing as well.

A handful of organizations are training shelter dogs to work within parks and protected lands assisting in conservation and invasive species detection. As adoption rates remain down and shelter intake continues to surge, programs that offer alternatives to traditional adoption for homeless dogs are not only changing the future of rescue, but providing one.

Lost Dog Reunites with Owner After Rescue in Joshua Tree National Park

PEOPLE PETS | JUNE 18

A 10-month-old Doberman was reunited with his owner after he ran away during a camping trip in Joshua Tree National Park in California.

According to Riverside County Animal Services, Christian Corona, 28, was camping with his dog Onyx on June 9 near the Jumbo Rocks campgrounds at the park, when his dog escaped. While the exact details of what caused Onyx to take off are unclear, he ended up getting scared and took off into the wilderness.

Corona then searched for his dog for two days in the mid-90-degree heat, and told officials, “I never thought I would see him again.”
