Summer is almost here but the month of May was full of time on the "courts" with:
  • 40 young players in our first spring season of USTA Junior Team Tennis 
  • over 170 students in PE classes at New Vision, Williamsburg and Draper Elementary Schools 
  • 75 participants on the mini-courts set up at the GO FAR Community Showcase 
  • 15 young parents and children from Partnership for Children's Young Parents Move and Grove grou 
In June, the Monday afternoon Xerox FREE clinics for MS and HS players with Coach B continue at the Eden Family Y.  On June 6, we welcome Butch Staples for a USTA Coach Youth Tennis Workshop and set up some fun tennis games in Wentworth at the Rock Your Health Wellness Fair.  Our Kids Tennis Club weekly programs, first Father's Day Level 6 one-day tournament, and "Mondays in Madison" Evening Family Play Days begin the week of June 21.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY JUNIOR TEAM TENNIS

 

Our registration grew to 40 players in two age groups before our first match at Jaycee Park in Reidsville on Sunday May 3.   We wrapped up 4 matches and 2 team practices with a pizza and ice cream celebration on Sunday May 31.  Whipped cream anyone?

Do you want to help children learn to play tennis?  

HURRY AND REGISTER NOW to join national trainer Butch Staples, Triad Area teaching professionals, RC Tennis volunteer coaches, interns, and interested parents (and grandparents) on the indoor courts at WR YMCA on Saturday June 6.  

This 3-hour wor kshop will show you how to engage young players in the game.  It's the perfect introduction to youth tennis for:
  • Summer Camp providers
  • Parks and Rec program counselors
  • RC Tennis volunteer coaches and interns
  • PE Teachers and tennis team coaches
  • Tennis Teaching Professionals
  • Adaptive tennis program providers
  • Parents of young Junior Team Tennis players
The fee is only $15 and you will receive a workbook, certificate and inspiration to help our young players find themselves in the game.

XEROX FREE Middle and High School Player Clinics return to the Eden Family YMCA
Bitrus Istifanus will hold FREE clinics for any middle or high school players at the Eden Family YMCA courts on Monday afternoons June 1, 8 and 15.  Middle school players attend from 4-5pm and high school players from 5-6pm.  This clinics are sponsored by a Xerox Community Involvement Program grant.  Contact Coach B at 336 552-5057 to attend.

 SUMMER Youth Tennis Camps in Rockingham County

  

Eaglemania 2015 at Rockingham Community College offers two weeks of "Get in the Game" Youth Tennis camp for grades 1-4 and 5-8 on July 6-9 and July 13-16.  Find the complete Eaglemania Registration packet including financial assistance form on our Summer Camps webpage. Bitrus Istifanus will lead week one and Coach Alyssa Mann will be lead week 2.  These 4 day morning camps are $45/player.

MORE JUNE RC TENNIS EVENTS :  Save the Dates for Rock Your Health Wellness Fair, a Father's Day Junior tournament and Monday Night Family PLAY DAYS in Madison
Join us for some fun tennis games on the Rockingham Community College tennis courts on Saturday June 6 from 10-11am at the Rock your Health Wellness Fair .

We're excited to announce that RC Tennis will host our first summer Level 6 one day junior tournament on Father's Day June 21 at Jaycee Park.  This event is for young players 8-18 who want to try their first tennis tournament.  Register online at http://tennislink.usta.com/Tournaments/  Use Tournament ID # 700119215 to find our event.  Registration fee is $15/player for USTA members.

Coach Shelby and RC Tennis are returning to the Carlyle Lewis Courts in Madison for a series of Monday evening  USTA Family Tennis Play Days on June 22, 29, July 13 and 27 and August 3 from 6:30-8pm . We had a great group of "regulars" last summer and can't wait to welcome them and new friends back to the court.   There will be a $5/child participation fee (maximum $10/carload) to support our community tennis association.   Register at www.youthtennis.com .

This summer we will host weekly Kids Tennis Clubs at RCS Kids Companion Camp, Summer Day Camps at Eden Parks & Rec Bridge Street Center and Parkview Village in Reidsville, SummerFest 2015 at the Boys and Girls Club of Eden and Camp Soar at Reidsville Family Y.  These programs are open to children registered for these summer day camps only.  With a generous donation from the Reidsville Area Foundation and USTA Southern Section Diversity Grants, each child who attends a Kids Tennis Club at these locations will be take a racket and ball home with them.  

We'll also make one-time visits to the MMRC Summer Day Camp and Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Education Center.  Follow along on our website's EVENT CALENDAR.
