A celebration of liberation. A message beyond music.
This Sunday at 5 pm.

In a music calendar filled with tentpole events, our Juneteenth celebration definitely ranks as another can't-miss event. Combining classical pieces with rousing spirituals, our Juneteenth celebration will feature both world-renowned organist Dr. Carl Haywood and singers from the Norfolk State University and St. James's choirs. Quite simply, it promises to be an uplifting and inspirational event from start to finish. Get all the details here.

And after it's finished, there's a reception in Valentine with food and drink prepared by our legendary St. James's cooks. And it's all FREE.

If the parking garage is full, we've also arranged for extra parking at One Monument.

Let's spread the word about Juneteenth.
We want everyone to know about our amazing Juneteenth celebration this Sunday at 5 pm.
You can help by going to our Facebook page and sharing our post (https://www.facebook.com/St.Jamess.Doers) or Instagram page (sjec1205)
Of course, you can also invite your friends and family.

There’s a reason we’ve been calling June “An Amazing Month of Music” here at St. James’s. Starting with the Memorial Day concert and Jazz Mass, and continuing with our Wednesday Night Recitals, it’s been one amazing music event after another. And there’s so much more to come.

Mark your calendars and call your friends. This is the perfect way to introduce someone to St. James’s.

Keeping Up with St. James'sers this summer

We know lots of you will be doing awesome things this Summer. So we came up with a fun way to stay in touch. We call it “Keeping Up with St. James’sers”.

And as you can see from the sample pictures here, we’ll publish photos of whatever you’re doing on our Instagram and Facebook pages. It could be anything from a big family trip to an afternoon of gardening, a walk through Carytown or pictures of your pet(s).

We’ve created a form on our website – https://doers.org/keeping-up-with-st-jamesers/ – where you can download your pics (you can definitely send more than one) and tell us a little about what you’re up to.

So have fun. And remember, “Pics or it didn’t happen.”
SAVE THE DATE:
The Ordinations of Blake Singer and Kilpy Singer
Next Saturday, June 25.

June 25 will be a milestone day for Blake Singer and Kilpy Singer, and by extension for St. James’s too. It’s the day both will be ordained.

The ordinations will be held at 10:30 am at The Church of the Holy Comforter, 4819 Monument Ave, (at Staples Mill). All are welcome to attend in person or to view the livestream

And just in case there was any confusion, the Vestry voted unanimously to extend a call to Blake to serve as one of our Associate Rectors. And he accepted. So he'll remain here at St. James's, only now he'll serve as a deacon for about six months, then (following Episcopal tradition) be ordained again as a priest in about six months.
We are collecting a small purse in honor of Blake and Kilpy’s ordinations at the end of the month.

You can make your gift on-line by going here. and please make the following selections:
Gift Type: "Give one time"
Giving Type: "Singer Ordination Gift"
You can also write "Singer Ordination Gift" in the memo line. Thanks!

If you would like to gift by check, please send to the church office, Attn: Lois Wallenhorst.
Check should be received by Thursday, June 23.

Help make St. James’s a warmer place.

Our Sunday Services can use your special brand of warmth. Greeters play an essential role at St. James’s, especially when it comes to making newcomers feel welcome and comfortable. There are openings right now.

If you are interested in joining this wonderful ministry, please contact Marisa Trible at valenzmc@gmail.com
Your name here.

We understand the importance of name tags, so moving forward you’ll find pens and name tags in the Narthex to use on Sundays.

We’re also in the process of creating permanent name tags that you can order and keep. We’ll have more details as we finalize our plans, But in the meantime, please use the disposable ones in the Narthex.

It’s a great way to help everyone feel more welcome.
There are so many things to DO at Peter Paul.

Our friends at Peter Paul have just put out a newsletter with a wide variety of volunteer opportunities you can participate in right now. Click here to see the newsletter.

Peter Paul is one of our three DOERS DOING partners and we have regular organized volunteer events with them. But the opportunities listed in the newsletter are things you or a group of you can do on your own. Thanks!!
