LOCAL CALLS
Arts Council Greater Lansing announces a call to teachers for their "Support Young Creatives Billboard Project." Teachers are invited to submit one piece of work by a student artist attending school in the Greater Lansing Region for the chance of having their art displayed on a digital billboard, during Youth Art Month in March 2021. Due to challenges with students being out of school at this time, the application deadline has been extended to Feb. 17, 2021, to better accommodate teachers. Learn more.

Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center and the City of Lansing announce a call for entries for the fourth annual ArtPath Public Art on the Lansing River Trail program. New this year, ArtPath 2021 artists will have the opportunity to participate in education programming, exhibit and sell their work in the retail gallery. Need to have questions answered? Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center announces a call to youth artists for their 36th Annual Art Scholarship Alert. This juried art exhibition and scholarship competition is for students grades 9-12 and students 18+ who participate in the Young Adult SE Programs and reside or attend school in Ingham, Clinton, Eaton, Ionia, Shiawassee, Barry, Livingston, Calhoun or Jackson county. This program gives recognition and financial assistance to outstanding art students, encourages artistic growth and provides young artists an opportunity to participate in a professional gallery setting. MICHIGAN CALLS
Fiat Chrysler (FCA), City Walls Detroit and the Office of Arts, Culture and Entrepreneurship are seeking an artist or collaborative team for a creative place-keeping project in and around Southeastern High School and Detroit Enterprise Academy. It will be one of the largest municipal mural installations in city history. This two-year initiative will enhance the neighborhoods around the Jefferson auto plant and find ways to increase public art, youth engagement and workforce development. The theme for the mural installation will be the result of engagement with the neighbors in the Beniteau and Lillibridge neighborhoods and the students at the schools. Application deadline is March 31, 2021. The City of Dexter announces a call to artists for the “Dexter Art Gardens,” an annual outdoor artwork exhibition sponsored by the Dexter Arts, Culture & Heritage Committee and the City of Dexter. Four (4) temporary outdoor artworks will be juried and placed on temporary display with the City’s permanent collection for one year: June 2021-May 2022. The selected pieces will be installed on concrete pads in highly trafficked locations in historic Dexter, Michigan. The ​Crooked Tree Arts Center in Traverse City, Michigan, seeks artists for the national plein air painting festival, "Paint Grand Traverse: a plein air affair," now in its fourth year. This plein air (outdoor) painting festival and competition features 30-40 artists from across the country. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and changing public health situation, they have a "Plan A" (six days long, with outdoor/indoor gatherings, housing provided in host homes) and a "Plan B" (four days long, socially distanced, housing NOT provided). Art Rapids! is seeking artist applications for original sculptures of a size, weight and material suited to an outdoor park setting. The sculptures will be exhibited at the Elk Rapids Day Park, located in Elk Rapids, Michigan. Selected works will demonstrate the intimate connections between art, place and the natural environment. Artists can submit 3-6 representative digital images, sketches or a scale maquette of their proposed sculpture. Digital images must be in jpeg format and submitted on a CD or by email. Kalamazoo Institute of Arts announces a call to artists for the West Michigan Area Show 2021. This annual juried exhibition showcases work in all media by artists in a 14-county region surrounding Kalamazoo. Each year, a renowned artist, educator or museum specialist selects the works to be exhibited and over a dozen works to be awarded over $5,000 in prizes, including a $1,000 grand prize. NATIONAL/INTERNATIONAL CALL
The Springfield Art Museum in Springfield, Missouri seeks entries for Watercolor USA 2021, held June 5-Aug. 29, 2021. Cash awards for $3,000, $2,000, $1,500 and $1,000, possible Museum Purchase Awards and artist materials packages will be given. Juror is Nick Nelson, director, Springfield Art Museum. Yeiser Art Center is accepting entries for the Fantastic Fibers 2021 international juried exhibition at Yeiser Art Center April 1-May 29, 2021. The exhibit seeks to showcase a wide range of outstanding contemporary works related to the fiber medium. Contemporary and innovative works created with fiber as the primary medium or concept are welcome. This exhibition is open to all artists 18 years and over working in the field of fiber art.
