Offered here is a recently completed, fully and completely documented total restoration with correct numbers. This 1958 Corvette is believed to be number 4664, built on February 26, 1958 In St. Louis, MO, the 42nd car built that day. Refinished in the original silver blue with silver coves, a blue interior and a new black convertible top. Rebuilt original 283 cu. in. engine and four speed Muncie M20 transmission (1969 vintage unit), Wonderbar radio. This beautiful C1 is ready to drive and show.
Starting with a project car purchased in September, 1999, the complete restoration was undertaken over the period since, completed this year.
Engine: Original (RPO 469C, period correct block), rebuilt. The engine cast date is B128, February 12, 1958, the build date is F224CU, built in Flint, MI on February 24, 1958. Engine type: CU 283 CI, WCFB2X4 BC, 270HP, with a high lift camshaft and hydraulic lifters. Heads cast number: 375550. Cylinder heads cast date codes: J18/J28, Oct. 1 & Oct. 2, 1958. Compression ratio is 10.5:1. The engine was completely rebuilt, including the two rebuilt Carter 4-bbl. carburetors.
Transmission: The original transmission was in pieces, so it was replaced with a rebuilt Muncie M20 (1969 vintage, stamp date P9T09A, case no. 29B158376, 10-spline input, 27-spline output shafts) all-synchro transmission. Rear axle ratio: 3.70.
Frame & Suspension: the left front section was replaced, the frame straightened and coated with POR-15, all by Roberts Corvette Center. The front end was rebuilt, with new kingpins, bushings, new front springs & shocks, etc.
Body: The complete front clip was replaced. The bodywork and paint was done to a better than factory standard (as can be seen in the high resolution, enlargeable photos in the gallery). The front bumperette brackets were replaced with NOS parts, all other chrome parts were replated (e.g., the trunk spears) or replaced with high quality reproductions.
Interior: Professionally replaced with correct high quality materials, with seat foam and springs, door panels, dash pad, and carpet from Al Knoch interiors.
Tires: Uniroyal Tiger Paw, bought & installed on its 15 in. wheels, March 13, 2024.
Brakes: All components (drums, shoes, cylinders, lines) have been replaced.
Every component was either rebuilt, refinished or replaced with either NOS or high quality reproduction parts. Included are the complete restoration book with photos, all records and receipts, and a clear MI Title.
