February Insider 2019
New Director : : Casey Price
Youth Development Director & Apparel

I am happy to be back working with JVC after some time away and now as a director of youth development and apparel! I started playing with juniors my senior year of high school when I played on the 18's team. After that I did some coaching for Juniors from the ages of 11's to 16's. Juniors is a HUGE part of my family as every single member of my immediate family has coached, all 3 sisters and a cousin played and now both of my kids play as well!

Fitting, sorting and distributing uniforms for 655 athletes has been a huge undertaking! I am really looking forward to learning and working towards perfecting the process in the future.

I also, have had the pleasure of taking over the Local Program in its second year. We have four teams: The 10/11s Dart Frogs, 10/11s Boomslangers, 13s Meerkats and the Boys 12s.  This program offers the opportunity for beginners to get a taste of what club volleyball is with one practice per week and one tournament per month. The 10/11s teams have already been to two scrimmage days and are looking forward to their first real tournament in February at the Rec Plex! The 13s just completed their first tournament and although they didn't bring out a win, you can certainly see the improvements in their volleyball skills. They will only continue to get better! We are really excited about this program and building a foundation of young players that will learn to love volleyball!

The Illinois Juniors club season is in full swing! It's been such a privilege for all of us, directors, coaches and players to come under one roof and train together. The competitive spirit and drive continue to get better and is at an all time high on both sides of the bench. Coaches strengthening their affinity to communicate and players honing their discipline to execute.

Last season IJV had 10 teams with only 3 in our high school wave. This year we almost doubled to 19, tripling our high school teams with 9! Our coaching staff from 2015-16 we had 7, many of which coaching 2 teams to now a total of 26! There's no way this season could've been as great as it has been thus far without the commitment from such wonderful people who just want to share their knowledge and be apart of a season of volleyball, many of them are making a great commitment that shouldn't go unnoticed!

We've had some great success in more ways than one, on the court, already with two tournament wins from our 15 and 16-1's teams taking home the title with first in their gold brackets! We've gone the furthest into the gold bracket at the Winter Classic than any other IJV team has ever gone taking 4th in gold in their respective divisions, and our 13 Navy team going 4-1 in the Jrs Feb Fun Tournament also making it into the semi's of their gold bracket!

It's undoubtedly evident that all of our teams won't go down without a fight as the majority of our battles lost are lost in 3 where miles and miles of success is found. Like any gym, there is still so much we can get better at, but we choose to focus on the moments of greatness and build from those. It's easily been the best start to a season Illinois Juniors has ever seen, and we have no plans of backing down from the schedule ahead of us! It's been equally a blessing and an honor leading this season!
Racine Juniors is off to a great start this season! Our players and teams are getting better each practice. The 13-Red took home a 3rd place win at Winter Classic and also won the hashtag contest. Follow our Instagram, @racinejuniors , to stay up to date on our latest information!
Juniors Volleyball Club ran our 1st Instagram Hashtag contest with outstanding participation!

Are you as tired of the cold as we are?
Maybe this information will warm you up as summer approaches, but seems so far away in this subzero climate! Juniors Beach is excited to announce plans for this upcoming season!
In addition to our high performance and volleykids programs, we will be bringing back our beach teams, running camps for those that just want a short experience, adding a juniors beach league for our young athletes to compete weekly against competitors their age and skill level! We're revamping our tournaments, and expanding what's available to our friends and families who don't want to miss out on all the summer fun. Our adult 6's league, adult triples will continue from last year, and what... a SPIKEBALL league?! Stay tuned for more information and if you have any questions feel free to reach out to the Directors of our Beach Program - Tyler Boyce and Scott Marita the Lead Directors of our Wisconsin and Illinois indoor programs! You can reach them at  [email protected] .  Stay tuned and stay warm with thoughts about the beach as summer approaches and more info comes out in the March edition of the JVC Insider!
JVC is thrilled to highlight the success of our athletes and share their "Journey" with our club family. We will interview one or more athletes a month highlighting their success as well as challenges they have overcome.
Olivia Sauers
Olivia plays for Illinois Juniors Volleyball Club 16'1s Team

How long have you been with IJV? I started IJV in sixth grade and now I am a sophomore at LHS so this is my fifth year playing for Illinois juniors.

Why have you stayed at the club so long? because I have made so many friendships that have grown throughout the years.

Favorite thing about IJV Club? My favorite part about the club is the positive and fun atmosphere during practice and tournaments, and traveling with my team to far away tournaments like Florida and Indianapolis.

What position do you play & do you have any tips/advice? I started as an outside hitter, but when my height and vertical did not allow me to continue this position, I changed to the passing position of the libero, which was much better suited for me.

A piece of advice about my position would be to work on speed and agility to be able to move to the ball as quick as possible in defense and to get the max reps u can. The best drill that has helped me the most in order to do this is to dig balls from left back coming either from a coach or hitters from the other side of the net.

My advice would be to branch out and talk to new people that you haven’t been friends with on your team. One girl i met three years ago on my team has turned out to be my best friend and has been on my team ever since.

Do you see yourself playing in college? Currently I do not have a lot of interest to continue and play volleyball in college.

Best Club Volleyball memory? I can’t choose a specific memory but all around the best memories have come from far away tournaments when our team gets to spend tons of time together laughing both on and off the court.

What are you looking forward to this season? I am looking forward to creating more memories and chemistry, growing with my team and hopefully having some success along the way.

What are your concerns about moving on to the next level of volleyball? One concern I have about moving to the next level is that I won’t be prepared enough for the high paced speed and harder hits coming from the higher level hitters.
We are proud to share a letter we received from one of our parents regarding our approach to cancelling practices...
Over the past 27-years I have made my living developing and implementing road safety programs for employers of all shapes and sizes and wanted to mention how impressed I have been with the proactive and compassionate emails I have seen from you lately when it comes to inclement weather and the concern WJV has for the safety of players and parents alike.
I realize it can be very difficult for any organization to make these decisions when you want to “get product out the door” and in the case of WJV, want to see players practice to get the best possible “product on the floor” as well.  The fact that you take a long-view of the matter and account for everyone’s safety and well-being (above all) is extremely telling and commend you and others within the WJV organization for this approach. Well done.
