“The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” – 1 Samuel 16:7
Greetings everyone. Does the world seem upside down to you at this time? It sure does to me and I have proof that parts of it are. I think all of us could use a little humor, so I would like to share a recent event that happened in our household.
As many of you know, I am a type 2 diabetic, so I do not eat many breakfast cereals, especially the real sugary ones. But occasionally I will eat a handful (or 2 or 3) of Peanut Butter or Honey Nut Cheerios. Such was the case one day when I went into our pantry and grabbed a box off the shelf. I opened it, reached in and retrieved a generous handful of these tasty little treats. When I started to close the box I noticed that there was no slotted tab to hold the flaps together. I shrugged my shoulders and place the box back in the pantry.
A few days later, I again retrieved the box from the pantry and left if sitting on our kitchen island. My wife noticed it and asked me “Did you open the cereal upside down?” As that proverbial lightbulb came on in my head and a sheepish grin spread across my face, I responded “So that’s why there were no tabs to secure the flaps!” I was so focused on what was inside the box that I did not notice that I had opened it upside down. Truth is I would not have cared anyways since I was only interested in what was inside.
Silly as it seems, I was reminded of how God looks at us. On the outside we may be upside down, inside out or turned about. None of that matters because as the Scripture says, “The Lord looks upon the heart.” I don’t know about you but that really encourages me. Knowing that God looks past all of the cracks, the scars and the wrinkles in my physical appearance and still loves me in spite of all these imperfections is reassuring. It motivates me to yield to the work of His hands upon my heart as He continues to transform me into what He created me to be, a child of God, created in His image. I hope that inspires you to be clay in the Potter’s hands as well.
If you have any funny stories from your time in “home sheltering”, I would love to hear them. Oh, by the way, a large bag of chips was just found a couple days ago; they too were opened upside down. I’m not saying who did it but it wasn’t me. Stay safe and well until everything is right side up again.
Blessings in the name of the One who can make us right again,
Dave
