"The Changeless Word of God"
|
The Word of God does not change. Our understanding of it
might change. Our application of it might change. It’s
impact on our life might change, but God’s Word does
not change. In order to understand the value of the
changeless word of God we will be looking at what Paul
reminded Timothy of concerning the Word of God.

Prayer Ministers:
(After 9:30 a.m. service)
Prayer Table - Shirley Harvey
Room 10 - Ron Gossard
After the benediction, follow the Light.
Prayer Ministers are waiting for you.
|
Each Sunday in Dunlap Hall, Family Care through the Power of Prayer offers a prayer table staffed by a Prayer Minister. Look for it on the left side near the doors to the hallway at the conclusion of each 9:30 and 5th Sunday 10:30 service.
As you enjoy coffee and visit with friends, feel free to have a moment of brief prayer lifted up on your behalf or on behalf of others.
If you prefer more privacy or a quieter setting, a second Prayer Minister will be available in room #10; the room next to the library.
Either way, our ongoing goal is to provide meaningful
opportunities for prayer that's important to you.
"So let us come boldly to the very throne of God and stay there to
receive His mercy and to find grace to help us in our times of need."
Heb. 4:16 TLB

“I looked and saw the glory of the Lord filling the temple of the Lord, and I fell facedown.” –Ezekiel 44:4b (NIV)
This week’s encouraging words were inspired by our dog, Daisy. A few weeks ago Susan and I were enjoying a meal together and discussing how blessed we are. As soon as the word “blessed” came out of my mouth, Daisy ran over and planted her front feet up on my knee. Crazy as it sounds, and with a pleading look in her eyes, it was as if she were saying “Bless me, I want a blessing too.” I looked down at her and said “I’ve already blessed you. Do you realize how blessed you really are? You have a very nice home to live in while many other little dogs have to live outside.” Speaking those words to her immediately evoked a child hood memory that took my mind back nearly five decades.
It was the summer of 1973. My youngest sister and I were now living with our grandmother, and our older brother and his wife. Located in the cities’ first ward, the house was a modest 2 story, 4 bedroom structure with a full basement and a fenced in back yard. Ironically, it was on Liberty Street and moving there was the beginning of God’s restorative working in my life. It was there that I knelt beside my grandmother’s bed one night and found forgiveness and freedom from sin through Jesus.
Growing up, we never had any pets in our house, no cats, no rabbits and especially no dogs. I don’t remember exactly how it happened that summer but we were given permission to get a dog. We drove to the local animal shelter and picked out a beautiful German shepherd. As we drove home we talked about names for our new four-legged friend and settled on the name, “Elsa.”
There was a catch to this, though. Because she was such a big dog, we had to keep her in the basement when we didn’t have her outside playing, walking, etc. Unfortunately, 2 weeks later we moved into an apartment (that’s another story) and had to give her up.
While Daisy and I were having this “conversation”, Susan joined in, completing this question that I had started; “Spiritually speaking, are you keeping Jesus in the basement, or does he have the run of the house?” Ponder that for a moment.
Remember that we are his temples and he wants to fill us, all of us, with the glory of his presence. I encourage us all this week to make sure we have opened every space, nook and cranny in our spiritual houses to the fullness of Him, “in whom we live and move and have our being.”
Blessings in Christ,
Dave

Way Forward Survey
Brothers and sisters in Christ,
As you know, we have shared with you the outcome of the Special Session of the General Conference of the United Methodist Church in St. Louis, regarding same-sex relationships and the role of the clergy. We are now seeking to hear from you on your views on the matter
. Will you please take a few minutes to complete this brief survey, and return to Christie Riggsby in the church office, no later than Sunday, May 26?
You may also provide this to any of us (RJ, Dave or Steve).
A few comments about this survey:
- All responses will be held confidential, unless you direct otherwise.
- This survey is needed by the leadership of John Wesley United Methodist Church so that we can assess what direction we should lead the church in the upcoming year. We will share the compiled results (individual responses will remain confidential) at an upcoming church-wide meeting, tentatively planned for late June.
- We also need your input prior to our 2019 Annual Meeting the West Ohio Conference, as a key activity of our representatives will be to select delegates for the 2020 global General Conference. As the topic of human sexuality is likely to be discussed at this 2020 General Conference, we want to ensure we select delegates that represent the views of John Wesley United Methodist Church.
Yours in Christ,
RJ Davis Dave Conaway Steve Cammarn
Pastor CLM and Lay Leader Administrative Board Chair

Dish Soap Collection
The Youth Group is doing a dish soap drive for the non-food pantry at the Presbyterian church. Personal size, not the large ones, because they are passed out to individual families and that's the size they want. They are being collected until the end of the month. There are two boxes in the Narthex for you to drop off donations. Thank you!

On May 30, we want to invite anyone interested in hearing about an exciting mission across the world in India. We’ll have Laura (Marilyn’s former student) and Lisa from Hope Restored India with us here at church for a brunch and to hear these women’s stories of their mission work with women who are transitioning out of the world of prostitution into a world of being on their own for the first time in their lives. We’ll meet at 9:30 for brunch with their sharing words of inspiration to follow. You’ll be amazed at what all you probably never realized is involved in changing a woman’s life after her enslavement for so much of her life.
Please let Marilyn Shultz know if you plan to join us so that we have enough food and places at the tables to share in this event. (738-3109 or [email protected])
