“If you still have a pulse, God still has a purpose.”
-David Hughes
I jotted down this quote that I came across several months ago and tucked it away for a rainy day. Well today is a rainy day and when I’m finished writing this, I will be able to clean one more scrap of paper off of my desk.
😊
Now some of you may find this quote humorous, while others may experience some anxiety as you realize the implied message that God has more work for you to do. In either case, I thought it would be a good follow up to RJ’s message on God’s plan for our lives.
Over the course of the past few months, like many of you, I have wrestled with these questions, what is God’s purpose for me during this pandemic?; what is God’s purpose for the Church?” Because of Covid-19 and social distancing, in-person ministry for most of us has taken on an entirely different look or come to a screeching halt.
Additionally for me, I was certain that part of my mission field was at Enterprise but under doctor’s orders I have not returned to work yet. Over the past few months it would appear that I have been repurposed to helping my neighbors.
No matter what purpose or “repurposing” God may be revealing to you during these uncertain times, there is one thing that we can all do, we can comfort those around us. Whatever your current circumstances may be, I encourage you to be comforted by God so you can be a comfort to others.
3
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.
4
He comforts us in all our troubles so
that we can comfort others.
-2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NLT)
Be blessed, be well, be safe,
Dave

SCHOOL SUPPLIES
FOR S.O.U.L. PANTRY
By July 31st!
|
|
|
School supplies are now on sale in many places. Here are a few: Walgreens, Meijer, Kroger, Staples, and Walmart. Any and all school supplies will be welcome as clients shop at S.O.U.L. However school is done this year, we know that kids will need supplies – to do school work or keep them entertained. We also realize that, as of now, our church building is not open. If you do collect them, please let Cheryl Harper know –
[email protected]
or 829-0936. Arrangements will be made to pick them up and deliver them to the pantry. It’s also helpful to keep a total of what you spend since we report the value of donations to the district.
Thanks so much for your ongoing support of this vital ministry!!

This has been a stressful week for the parents of school age children. Most had to decide how their children will experience school for the first semester in the midst of the coronavirus: in class, two distinct options for at home learning. These are the fortunate families.
So many of our neighbors also live in a coronavirus reality, with few resources to provide basic supplies for their children. Some experience devastating conditions due to natural and man-made conditions.
You are God’s representatives for his children in need.
Please consider donating supplies for the School, Hygiene and Emergency Clean Up Buckets. A full list of supplies is found in the Messenger (on-line).

As part of The United Methodist Church's Dismantling Racism: Pressing On To Freedom initiative, church leaders conduct a service of lament, inviting United Methodists across the connection to join in a time of repentance, communion and commitment as the church examines racial injustice.
In a multi-language and multi-cultural time of worship, a representation of our global church, United Methodists pray, sing and share communion with one another.
The service concludes with church leaders challenging every member of The United Methodist Church to a four-part call: pray, connect, show up, act.
As we pray, those of us who are white are called to pray that God will show us what we refuse to see and do what we've been unwilling to do. And those of us who are people of color are invited to pray with our white brothers and sisters and give another chance to get it right.
If we are truly ready to do a new thing, people of color and white people must connect with one another and talk about racism and about change.
To show up, we must put ourselves on the line to reclaim the soul of our nation and our church.
Finally, we must act, responding with commitment and courage by marching, demonstrating, writing letters to elected officials and speaking up.
To quote Council of Bishops President Cynthia Harvey, "Dear Life-Giving God, we your people are in this for the long haul. "
Learn more about what working toward racial justice for the long haul means for each of us.
