This Sunday. in the the final message of the Created for Community series, we will look at the desired outcome Jesus had in mind when he created his community of twelve men. We will look at the impact Jesus wanted their experience together to have and we will see the transformational power their experience of community had on them and the world around them.

COINS FOR THE POOR
SEPTEMBER
MATTHEW 25 MINISTRIES
Watching the many natural disasters lately, we sometimes wonder how we could help. Our donations to Matthew 25 allow us to reach across the nation and beyond to those who need that help. The best way to illustrate this is to quote from an August 27 email from Matthew 25.
“The past couple of weeks have been challenging for so many people around the world, especially those affected by the recent back-to-back disasters. Matthew 25: Ministries is currently responding to the powerful earthquake that struck Haiti on August 14th, severe flooding that devastated parts of Tennessee this past weekend, and Tropical Storm Henri that hit the Northeastern United States on Sunday. We're also continuing to ship aid to the California wildfires, and monitoring Hurricane Ida, which is likely to make landfall in the Gulf Coast in the coming days.”
An earlier email shared that they have a permanent medical clinic in Haiti so they were able to send medical personnel and supplies to the area hard-hit by the earthquake.
Our donations do make a difference!!

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.”
-Matt. 23:34 (NLT)
When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside the disciple he loved, he said to her, “Dear woman, here is your son.” And he said to this disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from then on this disciple took her into his home.
-John 19:26-27 (NLT)
And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
-Matt. 23:43 (NLT)
September is a month of transition when family vacations end as a new school year begins. Preparations for the coming winter begin as crops are harvested, and we move from summer to fall. The familiar smells of pumpkin spice, apple cider, fall rains and changing leaves will soon fill the air. A well-known retail chain declares, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year.”
In thinking about September, the word that comes to mind for me is “Change.” In the weeks ahead, all of creation will change. Leaves will turn, birds, fish, whales, elk, and caribou will migrate. Other animals will build dens to hibernate in during the coming cold months. But how will humans change? Certainly our activities, our wardrobes, even our locations may change, but will we change in significant ways?
In his book, The Jesus I Never knew, Phillip Yancey writes about the most significant moment of change in the history of the Cosmos, Christ’s death upon the Cross. He pens these words: “As always, Jesus was thinking about others. He forgave the men who had done the deed, He arranged care for his mother. He welcomed a shriven thief into paradise.”
During this season of change, what a wonderful opportunity for us to let God change our hearts, our minds, and our attitudes. Philippians 2:5 (NIV) says, “In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.” As life was departing his tortured, beaten, and bleeding body, Jesus’ mind was not on himself, it was on others, it was on you and me.
I encourage you today, do not carry old hurts and past grievances into this new season. Instead, let the same mind of Christ be in you, to love God, and to love others , “forgiving as we have been forgiven.”
Have a blessed week,
Dave

Join Us Thursday Morning - September 2
MATTHEW 25
YOUR CHANCE TO SERVE THE NEEDY AND THE NEEDS IN THE WORLD
The Thursday morning bible study is starting their new year with both a new bible study and an ongoing outreach to Matthew 25’s desperate needs to help those suffering from the earthquake in Haiti, tropical storm Henri in Tennessee, the wild fires in the West and now the destruction from Hurricane Ida. If you would like to join us this Thursday morning, September 2, from 9:30-11:30 in volunteering at Matthew 25, we will leave from the parking lot at 9:10 and be back at noon. Or, if you would like to make a donation towards this hurricane relief you can write a check to the church and mark on your check that this money is earmarked for Matthew 25 – Hurricane Ida relief.
“Matthew 25: Ministries is responding to Hurricane Ida which made landfall near Port Fourchon, Louisiana as a Category 4 hurricane yesterday, on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Ida was one of the strongest storms to ever make landfall in Louisiana, with an extreme wind speed of 150 mph. The combination of a dangerous storm surge, heavy rainfall and catastrophic winds has resulted in disastrous impacts along the southeast coast of Louisiana.
Matthew 25 is launching both an immediate and long-term response to Hurricane Ida, including deploying our Disaster Response Team and shipping aid into the impacted areas. We are currently working closely with partners in the area to identify the most urgent needs and will work to help throughout the widespread disaster region.
"We are heartbroken for the people impacted by Ida," says CEO Tim Mettey. "The impacts of this storm are devastating and incredibly far-reaching, and this will be a long-term recovery. Matthew 25’s domestic disaster response work began after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans 16 years ago. For weeks, I drove through the region, developing partnerships and distributing aid to help support these organizations’ work in their communities. That response laid a foundation for our current disaster response program, and we are ready to return to help again.”
We are so thankful for the ongoing generosity of everyone who supports our work. This has been a historic couple of weeks, with so many disasters and urgent needs. Thank you for choosing to partner with Matthew 25”.

A HUGE THANK YOU!!
You did it!
Even without good sales, you donated so many school supplies, for both S.O.U.L. and Northwest School District. Just imagine all the happy children and grateful parents. While this is not precise, a conservative estimate of the value of the supplies was $974 for S.O.U.L. and $611 for Northwest Schools – a grand total of $1,585 worth of school supplies. Thanks for being such a generous congregation.

A BIG THANK YOU
To everyone who gave Hygiene Kits and Cleanup buckets, or parts of them, for the Festival of Sharing. Ten people helped to check and pack the kits and three strong gentlemen delivered them to the pickup location in Hamilton. They delivered 109 hygiene kits and 16 cleanup kits! Each of you were part a chain that will touch people when they are so vulnerable and in need. #BeUMC

CHURCH MICE NEEDED!!!!
Have you ever been away from home? In a new unfamiliar surrounding? Just plain homesick? We have several of our young people who will soon be away attending college. Some are further away than others but nonetheless, embarking on a new chapter in their lives and possibly feeling alone.
John Wesley’s Church Mouse program has volunteers that send encouragements to these college students by way of a card telling them to keep up the good work, a gift card to a favorite eatery, a box with a few small tokens like favorite candy, or even just a note offering encouragement and prayers.
We have heard many stories from the parents and students stating that the cards and encouragements arrived at very opportune times. For example, before an important exam, when decisions needed to be made, and even just to ease a feeling of homesickness.
As we strive to reach the individual, touch the community, and serve the world, let’s begin with our own families and friends. We are in need of at least six people who are willing to volunteer to be a church mouse to one of our young college students. All communication is anonymous and we ask for at least one school year commitment.
Please contact Lynn Dixon at [email protected] or 513-255-2610 if you wish to volunteer.
