This Sunday we will kick-off a 9-month long celebration of our
50-years as a church. Our kick off will take place at Harbin Park with
ONE WORSHIP SERVICE at 10:30 AM
. You are asked to
bring a lawn chair and a dish to share as we will picnic in
the park together after worship. Because it is a celebration of
50-years we will look at God’s plan for Jubilee every
50-years and what that would have meant to the people
of that time and what it might mean for us today.

‘Our Prayer Ministers will be on call this Sunday as they are each Sunday.
No candles in sight, but Pat Bennett and Nikki Griffin will be there with you and,
if you need prayer, please see one of them. They will be more than happy
to pray with you. If there is a change in location because of weather,
both Ministers will be on duty at Church—just find one of them for any prayer need. They will be enjoying this special day along with you.’

Each Sunday in Dunlap Hall, Family Care through the Power of Prayer offers a prayer table staffed by a Prayer Minister. Look for it on the left side near the doors to the hallway at the conclusion of each 9:30 and 5th Sunday 10:30 service.
As you enjoy coffee and visit with friends, feel free to have a moment of brief prayer lifted up on your behalf or on behalf of others.
If you prefer more privacy or a quieter setting, a second Prayer Minister will be available in room #10; the room next to the library.
Either way, our ongoing goal is to provide meaningful
opportunities for prayer that's important to you.
"So let us come boldly to the very throne of God and stay there to
receive His mercy and to find grace to help us in our times of need."
Heb. 4:16 TLB

“The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving. –Psalm 28:7 (NLT)
I love this verse from the 28th Psalm which David wrote as a prayer for God’s help. With a heart full of joy, he bursts out in songs of thanksgiving. The NIV translates it,
“My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.”
Have you ever done that, just burst out in joyful song?
I recently visited one of our members in a physical rehabilitation facility, and during our conversation we spontaneously broke out singing “I’ve got the Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy down in my heart.” Two staff members across the hallway heard us and just smiled. Several weeks ago, a co-worker hollered at me, “Hey you.” When I turned around she said “I just wanted to see if you were smiling; you’re always smiling.” Yes, I was because I learned a long time ago that happiness is not an emotion, it is a choice, an attitude that is fueled by the joy in our hearts.
Don’t get me wrong, like every other human being, I too, have periods of sadness, dryness, depression, anxiety and everything else that can burden our hearts and weaken our spirits. It is in those moments that I call on Jesus, acknowledging that he is my strength and shield, my help in bad times, in good times, in all my times. Many years ago I adopted Nehemiah 8:10 as one of my life verses;
“For the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
It is a thankful heart that leads to a joyful heart and a joyful heart leads to a smile. The world longs for the joy that we have as Christians; but that conversation can only begin when they see that we choose to be happy. I encourage you to put on your smiles whenever you encounter another person who comes into your day. Who knows, maybe you too will burst out in a song of thanksgiving.
Blessings in Christ,
Dave

Easy and Important - Help JW Kids
We are fortunate to have faithful nursery volunteers.
They do a good job of scheduling themselves through our automated system but we just need a person to oversee it. This is a minimal time commitment but so important.
Contact Christie if God calls you to serve in this way.

If you are interested in volunteering at Matthew 25 Ministries, our next trip will be on Saturday September 28 2019 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Since parking there can be a challenge, we will meet in the church parking lot at 10:00 for those who need a ride or want to carpool. Both stand up and sit-down work are always available. I will be in Dunlap Hall every Sunday with a sign-up sheet. If you have never volunteered there before you will need to complete a waiver form. If you have any questions, please contact Larissa Waldorf at 513-488-9169.

Meijer’s Simply Give Program
To benefit S.O.U.L. Food Pantry
August 18 – September 28
YOU REALLY CAN MAKE YOUR
MONEY “GO FARTHER”!!
1. How does Simply Give Work? When shopping at the Fairfield/Forest Park Meijer store during those dates, you tell the cashier you want to make a donation to Simply Give. Donations must be made in $10 increments. Meijer will match that, making it $20. You could save your receipt for tax purposes.
You do NOT have to buy anything to participate.
2. How can I make my money go even farther? Friday, September 13, is a “Double Day”. Meijer will give a double match, making your $10 into $30!
3. How does this benefit the S.O.U.L. Food Pantry? All the funds put in (ours and Meijer’s) go into a credit account which S.O.U.L. can use to purchase food and diapers.
The pantry rarely gets diapers and clients really appreciate them, when available.
4. "It's not convenient for me to go to Meijers" or "$10 is more than I can give." Can I still participate? See Cheryl Harper after service on Sunday or contact her (608-2869 or
[email protected]
) You may give any amount; every little bit helps!! Those donations will be bundled and taken to Meijer on Double Day. You may also write a check to JWUMC, with "Simply Give" on the memo line. Those funds will also be used to donate during Double Day.
