WEAR RED FOR Pentecost. This coming Sunday is Pentecost. According to the book of Acts, after Jesus’ ascension, his disciples were gathered together in an upper room; and suddenly a sound came from heaven, like a strong wind, and everyone there, about 120 of them, were filled with the Holy Spirit. That is known as Pentecost. The word Pentecost literally means “50,” which signify the 50 days after Easter. Pentecost has also been considered the birth of the Christian Church.
For Pentecost, we will be learning a new Song together during worship. If you would like to listen to it before then, here is the YouTube link: https://youtu.be/3zARVp3420I
Memorial Day Remembrance. This coming Monday we remember those who have served our country in the military and have died in the line of duty. The Town of Falmouth’s Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony will take place on Monday, May 29. The parade will start at 10:00 a.m. at the American Legion Post, 65 Depot Road and proceed to Pine Grove Preserve, 34 Foreside Road for the ceremony.
A call to join us in prayer– Every Wednesday at 11am, a few of us meet together to bring everything to God in prayer. Why pray? Not only was Jesus persistent that we ought to always pray, but in the Old Testament, God speaks through the prophet Isaiah, also insisting that God’s house “will be called a house of prayer for all nations.” Yet, it is not only the imperative call of God that brings us to prayer, but the miraculous transformation that happens when God’s people pray. You can be a part of that movement of God in our church. Anyone is welcome to join us anytime. We meet in the chapel.
Sermon Series: Half-Truths*
We all live by truths that help us make sense of our world and our experiences. We really don’t know if they are really true, because we have never taken the time to carefully examine them; yet we hear them all the time and often get up each morning counting on and believing that these beliefs are foundational to our faith and to life.
This Sunday, we will be pausing to celebrate PENTECOST (So wear your red) but next Sunday, we will continue our series as we take some of these truths, examining them in the light of what we know about God and the Bible.
June 4 - “It Doesn’t Matter What You Believe as Long as You’re Sincere”
June 11 - “When God closes a door, God opens another”
* Based on the book “half-truths” by Adam Hamilton
