JYM Weekly News:

October 7th - 14th

Ice Cream 6th grade

A look back & look forward...

This past week was a good one for connection. Sunday we got to go on a walking adventure to Lincoln Ave and enjoy treats while getting to know each other (and God!) a bit better.

Tuesday we had such a blast helping the kids at Casitas De Esperanza decorate their homes. They were excited to make their own custom door banners for Halloween.

The next Tuesday that we visit (the 19th) we will be painting and carving pumpkins with the families! Friday Oct. 29th from 4:30 - 6:30pm we will be doing a Halloween party at Casitas! We will have candy and kids will have a parade in costume. It is a lot of fun for us and brings a lot of joy to the families who live there. We thank everyone for your ongoing support through your time, monetary donations, or prayer.

Tuesday night we are returning to Moments of Peace and would love someone to help with the meal, you can sign up to do so below.

Keep reading to hear this week's plans, hope to see you soon!

This week in the JYM...

Sunday Oct. 10th

12:00 - 2:00pm at Bramhall Park (Meet on corner of Britton Ave & Weaver Dr)

Ice Block Sledding & Picnic Lunch!

Let's do something a little different together! We will be celebrating the start of California fall by doing some California sledding, or "ice blocking". If you've never done it before, we get giant blocks of ice and sit on them and slide down hills. It's a lot of fun and we can add in some competitions too.

Afterward we'll do a picnic lunch together at the park. Should be a lot of fun and we hope you can join us!

Tuesday Oct. 12th

5:30 - 6:45pm: Moments of Peace

6:45 - 7:30 Dinner (Donation or food prep help needed)

Students are invited to join us for our monthly "Moments of Peace" evening. This is a calm night to center ourselves in the midst of our busy and stressful lives.

We will have a short activity to bring us together, and then have some quiet stations set up where students can practice different forms of prayer and meditation.

We will end with dinner together and would love some adult help with that! If you can either provide a meal that you make (For about 25 people) OR Lisa and Kat will plan a simple dinner and buy the food for you, and you can prepare it in the church kitchen while we are with students.

If any parents can come to pick up 15 minutes early and help us start to clean up the kitchen, we would also appreciate that! Lisa and Kat are always appreciative when we get get home to our kids quiclky on Tuesday evenings so every bit of help is very valuable on these nights.

Young Adult BBQ!

Sat Oct. 16th 12 - 2:00pm at Woodhaven Patio

Before COVID changed everything, many of our young adults had expressed interest in creating a place for you to faithfully gather and connect. Church had been a big part of your lives growing up, but wasn't feeling like it quite fit your needs at the time. Well, a lot has changed in the past year and a half, but our need for each other and a place to be real hasn't changed - and may have increased. We feel like it's time for us to try again to make a new ministry for young adults happen

Pastor Susan, Pastor Jaekuk and Lisa and Kat, would like to invite you to a barbecue at Willow Glen UMC to reconnect with one another and to start thinking together about what a new ministry to young adults would look like now. We realize that we are all in different stages of our lives and may be looking for slightly different things from a community of faith, but mostly we want a space that feels like our own.

Please join us on Saturday, October 16 for a barbecue on the Woodhaven patio from 12-2pm. We'll have the food ready, so then we can enjoy some time getting to know one another and imagining what you want church to look like for you. I am sure we will find ways to be church together with fun and fellowship, friends and support, growing and sharing, serving and caring.

If you know of any young adults who may be interested in this gathering, please forward them this information!
