JYM Weekly Newsletter

July 3rd - 10th

It's time to travel together!

Last week in the JYM we got to watch a thought provoking movie about the difficulties overcoming poverty with our viewing of The Pursuit of Happyness and then had the privilege of serving together at Casitas de Esperanza on Tuesday.

This Sunday we leave for our first trip of the summer! We are taking 14 students to Sugar Pine Christian Camp in Oakhurst, CA. Read more about how to support us from afar! We won't have any JYM program in San Jose this week since Lisa and Kat will both be at camp.

Speaking of summer trips...

We still have room for you on our combined Mexico Mission Trip. Informational forms as well as registration can be found here: http://mexico.wgumc.org/ This trip is open to families and anyone five years or older, but the JYM will also be taking high school students who want to attend as a youth group. We need a couple more chaperones for our group. If you are an adult interested in leading our youth as we build a home, please reach out to Lisa.

If you want to donate to our Mexico Mission Trip team, you can do so here Our goal is to raise $2000 as a youth group community, help us achieve it!

Keep reading & we hope to see you soon!

A Message from Amigos De Guadalupe

The organization that manages Casitas de Esepranza (And multiple other housing faciliteis) has a new newsletter - A Summer of Solidarity newsletter. We wanted to share an excerpt from this week's message:

To us, solidarity means that justice isn’t really justice unless it is shared.

What is happening to our brothers and sisters in Los Angeles is troubling. As they stand with their community, we’re reminded of how vital it is that we do the same. Now is not the time to remain silent. Our country was built on the rights written into our Constitution and those rights must be protected.

The choice is clear. At Amigos de Guadalupe, we choose to stand up, not stand aside.

We stand with courage, compassion and community.

We stand with those who rise before dawn to work in the fields, kitchens, and construction sites, braving elements to feed and build our communities.

We stand with those who, despite the odds, rise to lead in classrooms, boardrooms, and civic life, serving all members of our communities.

We stand with allies who use their privilege to open doors and amplify voices.

Together, we are the people, and every person deserves dignity, safety, respect, and the opportunity to live in freedom.

In this moment of challenge, Summer of Solidarity is our declaration: We will not be divided. We will not forget our humanity.

Together, with our hands, our votes, our stories, our unity, and our LOVE, we will build something better…

Always, Si Se Puede.

In Solidarity,

The Amigos de Guadalupe Team

Mexico Mission Trip with Amor Ministry

Can't participate but want to support our youth and team of adults in this ministry? You can make a donation! Donations go directly toward:

• Building materials (purchased locally in Mexico)

• Van rentals and travel expenses for our team

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. We have a passionate team willing to give their time and energy to make change happen, but we can't do it without your financial support. Your gift helps build more than a home—it helps build hope. The world feels challenging right now and we believe that in challenging times we are called to learn, bring hope and build community across borders.

Building Hope

Who: High School Students

When: July 19th-26th

In collaboration with the WGUMC Building Hope group, (which has been going with Amor Ministries for the last 14 years) the JYM ministry leaders will be taking our high school students for our summer service trip. This service trip will also count for 40 hours of community service for students.
