JYM Weekly Newsletter

October 2nd - October 9th

Happy October!

We had a great end to a busy month at last Sunday's youth group. All ages came together to play games and learn and grow in their faith. We love seeing friendships grow!

This Sunday we have regular youth group with games, snacks, and discussions. Immediately after our Leadership Team Students will meet over dinner to plan some upcoming events for our youth group!

On Tuesday we are volunteering at Casitas. Kat is out of town and our amazing volunteer Mack is driving students who want to carpool from WGUMC. Please let us know if you are planning to join the carpool ASAP so she can plan accordingly. Thank you!

We also are beginning to collect costumes for the residents, you can read which costumes we need below.

Lastly, October 12th we are taking students to Altitude Trampoline Park, more details below, but you can register here now

Coming up in the JYM:

Youth Group

Sunday Oct 5th, 4:30 - 6:30pm at Willow Glen UMC

Students come play fun games and let off some steam before starting your school week. We have snacks and break out into small groups for discussions about life and faith. It is a safe place where our students can grow in their understanding of themselves and their beliefs.

Hope to see you there!

Student Leadership Team

Sunday October 5th, 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Students on our Leadership Team will meet after youth group to help plan upcoming events. Dinner will be provided.

Casitas de Esperanza

October 7th

4:30 - 6:00pm at 801 N First Street

4:10pm - Carpool from WGUMC by request

All are invited to help us serve dinner and lead crafts for the families who live at Casitas de Esperanza. You can meet us on site at 4:30pm, or request a seat in the carpool.

The carpool leaves from WGUMC at 4:10pm and students must request a ride to join it. Since we have a volunteer driving for the caprool this week, we would appreciate students letting us know they want a ride as soon possible. Thank you!

We have committed to helping provide costumes for the residents of Casitas De Esperanza. Below is a list of the costumes we need. If you can donate a costume, please use the Google Sheet to let us know which one you can provide. The form also has links to the Amazon listing for the specific costumes people requested. If you are having trouble with the form, let us know which ones you plan to donate.

Other News & Resources

Amigos De Guadalupe Needs our help! We received an email from the director of Unhoused Programs for Amigos De Guadalupe letting us know that due to funding cuts, starting November 1st, they cannot provide meals for residents. They are asking us to spread the word in hopes that friends and groups can help! I have copy & pasted the request here:

Three Ways to Help – Meal Support Options

Option 1: Serve & Share

  • Provide a hot dinner meal for 65 people

  • Serve dinner between 4–5 PM at the community site

  • Engage with families through uplifting conversation

  • Clean up the community room after the meal

  • Provide a hot dinner meal for 65 people

  • Deliver meals by 3 PM

  • No serving or cleanup required

Option 3: Make a Donation

  • Provide a monetary donation of $1,000

  • Your donation will fund a hot dinner for 65 individuals

  • To donate:
  • Visit our website and click on the donation link
  • In the notes section, please write:
  • “Casitas (Tiny Homes) Meal Program”

Home | Amigos de Guadalupe Center for Justice and Nonprofits

  • We will coordinate the meal logistics and ensure your donation directly supports a family dinner night

Get Involved

We’re asking individuals and groups to sign up for one day a month (or more!), and to spread the word to:

  • Church groups or ministries

  • Scout troops (Girl/Boy Scouts)

  • School teams or clubs

  • Work teams (great for team-building!)

  • Families and friends who want to give back

This is a chance to make a direct and meaningful impact and have fun doing it.

Contact Us to Sign Up or Donate

If you’re able to support in any of the three ways, please email us at ldelgado@amigosdeguadalupe.org and arosas@amigosdeguadalupe.org to get started. We'll share available dates and any info you need to plan your support

Meal calendar sign-ups are open now to serve meals beginning November 1st, giving you 30 days to get your group and menu (or donation) organized.

Thank you for showing up when it matters most. Your support nourishes more than just bodies; it builds hope.

With Gratitude,

Laura Delgado
