This week in the JYM...

01/03/22 - 01/06/22

Greetings and Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a wonderful winter break. We are excited to get back to meeting together, however we do want to share some news & changes.

With Omicron cases rising and every family having a different situation when it comes to their health, safety, and working conditions we want to continue to do our best to mitigate any spread in our own community. We will continue to require masks at all events and meet outdoors when possible. Since Tuesday evenings will be indoors for the foreseeable future due to darkness and possible rain, we will no longer be serving dinner at those gatherings. We thank you for your understanding.

I also want to remind students and parents that if you have any symptoms before a youth group event, we ask that you stay home until you are feeling better. We know that rapid antigen tests are not as accurate at detecting the new variant even when exhibiting symptoms, so please do not soley rely on that as a reason to attend if you have other symptoms and/or know you were recently exposed to someone who has tested positive for Covid. Lastly a mask reminder - the majority of health officials agree that cloth reusable masks are not as effective at preventing transmission of Omicron as other variants. If you are able - please begin to wear a Kn95 or N95 mask when gathering with other people. Thank you!

Last update - we typically would be serving at Casitas De Esperanza tomorrow (Tuesday), but we just learned that their generator stopped working for half of their residents and families had to be moved to a nearby hotel. Please keep this community in your prayers that all can be sorted soon. We will reach out to the JYM community if we hear of any update that we can help with. Currently we plan to return there next week.

Thanks for reading! We hope to see you at something soon. If you have any thoughts or concerns about our current safety policies regarding Covid-19, please reach out to us. We are constantly trying to assess and adapt to changing situations, and we want to be able to support you and your family as best we can.

In Christ,

If you plan to attend, sign-up below and also add your drink order if you already know it!

Winter Camp Dates Announced!

Feb 18th - 20th at Sugar Pine Christian Camp Cost: $289

For 6th - 12th grade students

More details including sign-up will be coming out ASAP, but for now please save the date for our winter camp!

We will be attending Sugar Pine Christian Camp's winter retreat for Jr. & Sr. high. They will have a speaker for the weekend, worship music, and lots of snowy activities like sledding and snowman building competition, plus lots of their regular activities like paintball, hiking, and more!

All students who attend must have a negative PCR test results taken a week before camp (their rule). We will be with other church groups this weekend but only in cabins with our own youth group students. At the moment indoor activities are mask-optional for camp attendees, but we will be requiring our JYM students to always have a mask on while indoors.

We will also need some cabin leaders - these are adults who will be staying in the cabin with our students for the weekend and helping with general chaperoning activities. If you are interested or maybe know of someone who may be, please message us! As an adult volunteer your cost of camp will be covered by the JYM as a thank you.

Stay tuned for when sign-ups go live this week, but until then save the date and you can check out the camp's website here (Note, they do not currently have our date listed for winter camp as it was recently added to accommodate our groups and others who were on a large wait list. The dates I shared are correct.)
