Record number of Golden Angels honored at

annual recognition dinner

On May 22, we hosted our annual Golden Angels Recognition Dinner at Joe’s Stone Crab in Miami Beach. The celebration honored Golden Angel Society members and highlighted the tremendous impact their generosity has made. We recognized more than 120 donors and welcomed 40 new Golden Angels, the most ever in one year! The dinner’s program also showcased the new construction and expansion plans that will propel Jackson Memorial Hospital’s emergency department into a role model facility for quality, efficiency, and experience.

A special award honored Grand Seraphim donor, Shriners Hospitals for Children, for an unprecedented gift that is the driving force behind construction of the UHealth Jackson Children’s Care Pediatric Outpatient Pavilion. The highest honor, the Rainmaker Award, was presented to Jessie and Carlos Mendal. Carlos Mendal’s patient experience at Jackson, after being in a biking accident, led to the couple's tireless commitment and incredible work to support the Foundation’s mission.

Celebrating National Nurses Week

From May 6 to 12, Jackson Health System celebrated nurses for their outstanding service and commitment to patient care. The Foundation was overjoyed to have one of our philanthropists, Ana VeigaMilton, experience a day in the life of a nurse as she shadowed nursing director Geisy Roca and nurse Alys Betancourt at José Milton Memorial Hospital at Jackson West Medical Center. It is always heartwarming to see how our donors are not only generous, but truly invested in Jackson and our healthcare heroes.

Staying mindful and finding balance

On May 13, we welcomed hundreds of runners, walkers, and participants to Larry and Penny Thompson Memorial Park for our annual Mind Your Health event to help raise mental health awareness. Presented by FPL, funds raised went to programs, services, and initiatives at Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital.

This year's emcees, WSVN's Vivian Gonzalez and Jackson Dill, energized the crowds and kept all of our programming on track. The festival included a variety of mindfulness activities and performances by School of Rock Miami. There were educational games to promote physical and mental well-being in the Kids Zone, and delicious bites and refreshing beverages in the Nutrition Village. The Education Village, presented by AvMed, featured expert speakers from Jackson Behavioral Health offering tips and resources to help maintain and improve overall mental health.

The 5K run and one-mile walk wrapped up the day's festivities. From individuals honoring loved ones, to families affected by mental illness, to our community partners, supporters, and advocates, we all came together with one purpose: to help reduce the negative stigma of mental health and raise funds to support programs that aid in this effort. I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!

This year's Ice Cream We Love celebration on May 20 and 21 at Bal Harbour Shops, benefiting Holtz Children's Hospital, was the sweetest one yet! Scoops of smiles were served at this all-you-can-eat event. Attendees enjoyed sampling from 17 of the trendiest ice cream vendors in the nation while enjoying interactive experiences and beautiful Bal Harbour.

First held in 2017, the annual event honors Bal Harbour Shops founder Stanley Whitman and his dedication to philanthropic service and continuous support of Holtz Children's.
