4-4-24: One Day for Jackson a huge success

A big thank you to our partners and community members who rallied with Jackson Health Foundation and Jackson Health System to make our inaugural day of giving one to remember.

Leading up to and on One Day for Jackson - April 4 - we spread awareness about Jackson’s impact on the health of our community and raised funds to support our mission to provide a single, high standard of quality care for all residents of Miami-Dade County. With your help, we raised more than $550,000, which will directly benefit Jackson’s areas of greatest need. Photo gallery

On Saturday, April 27, Golden Angel Society members, generous donors, sponsors, and the community came together for this year's Golden Angels Gala, where we raised $6 million for Jackson. The sold-out night, which saw more than 750 attendees, also commemorated the very best of Jackson.

The gala's theme, Mediterranean spring, featured violists, an interactive live canvas, and champagne and caviar stations, ensuring everyone had an elegant evening while showing their support for our community's health system.

Special thanks to our gala committee, Trish and Dan Bell, Jerry Cody, Bert De Armas, Jeannie Etter and David Coulson, Maya Ghaemmaghami, MD, and Ana and Cecil Milton; our top sponsors, Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits, The Collection, Winston & Strawn LLP, Florida National University, Trish and Dan Bell, The Gorson Family, Greenberg Traurig, José Milton Foundation, and West Coast University; and our emcees, six-time Emmy Award-winning journalist Laurie Jennings and Univision's Javier Romero, for making the evening a huge success! Making miracles happen

Jackson’s former chief of obstetrics and director of maternity services finds himself back at the hospital, this time for a life-saving double-lung transplant

Dr. Salih Yasin dedicated 36 years to bringing new life into the world at Jackson Health System. Retirement brought a change of pace, but two years later, he found himself back at the hospital as a patient in need of life-saving treatment.

Diagnosed with scleroderma-associated interstitial lung disease, he faced a dire prognosis. After thorough research, Dr. Yasin chose the Miami Transplant Institute, an affiliation between Jackson and UHealth – University of Miami Health System, for his double-lung transplant, citing its exceptional care and outcomes. Following a successful transplant led by Dr. Mauricio Pipkin and Dr. Tiago N. Machuca, Dr. Yasin embarked on a remarkable recovery journey.

Today, he walks two miles daily, volunteers, and cherishes time with loved ones. Dr. Yasin is grateful to the donor family and Jackson for a second chance at life. Read more
