June 2025

Welcome to the Jacksonville Beach Police Department "News You Can Use" newsletter. Each month, we will share our newsletter detailing our agency's efforts, staffing levels, major cases, important dates, member highlights, and general news you can use regarding law enforcement in Jacksonville Beach.

Recruitment is still a major focus for the Jacksonville Beach Police Department. As of June 30, we had three candidates in the final phase of the hiring process, and we continue to process part-time police applicants.

Gun Safety Awareness Event

Community Engagement Unit Sergeant T. L. Tator held the first Gun Safety Awareness Event at the police station on June 14.  This event was focused on educating both parents and children about safe handling and storage of firearms. The event was a huge success, and we will hold this event again in the future.

Special thank you to Gun Gallery who generously donated a gun vault that was given away in a free drawing.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to local photographer and film producer Mitch Kaufmann for generously donating his time and talent to create a powerful gun safety video for this event.

We are proud to partner with individuals who are just as dedicated as we are to public safety and this community.

The Jacksonville Beach Police Department is seeking to identify the individual in this photo in connection to an incident that occurred in Jacksonville Beach on December 1, 2024.

If you have any knowledge of the identity of the pictured subject, please contact Detective E. D. Filbert #9975 at (904) 877-0730 or email efilbert@jaxbchfl.net.

Country Fest was again a success.  Based on large crowds in years past and current events throughout the US, we deployed a maximum effort both in resources and personnel.  Once again, there were no major incidents to report.

The Police Department participated in the Duval County School Board / Police Active Assailant Drill at Mayport Middle School.  This was an elaborate exercise which included personnel from multiple police agencies, Jacksonville Fire/Rescue, Duval County School Board, and student role players. There were nearly 150 persons involved, and the drill tested everything from initial response to student/parent reunification.

The pace of planning for the Air Show is quickening. Approximately two dozen agencies, which are involved is this complex event, met several times this month.  The meetings and planning will continue right up to the first day of the show. It is difficult to accurately describe the complexity of successfully hosting this event.

Air Show dates this year are October 25 and 26.

YARD SALE

The CPAAA held another yard sale fundraiser.  The event was well attended by shoppers, and it raised just under $3,000. They use this money to help fund things like our Kid's Christmas Party, the Kid's Halloween Party, as well as purchasing equipment and feeding our officers during special events.

We launched a community-wide See Something, Say Something campaign to strengthen public safety through awareness and vigilance.

Spot suspicious behavior?

Notice an unattended item or potential threat?

Hear something concerning?

Don’t ignore it—report it. Your instincts and actions can help prevent crime and keep our community safe.

On June 28, at 10:00 AM, members of our agency stood alongside Kirsten Bridegan on Sanctuary Boulevard—just south of Jacksonville Drive—in remembrance of Jared Bridegan.

We would like to thank the Sanctuary community homeowners for organizing and purchasing this beautiful plaque to honor Jared’s legacy.

Officer Spotlight

We would like to send our heartfelt support to Corporal M. K. Brossart as she begins a one-year deployment to the Middle East with the US Army Reserves.

Corporal Brossart, We are proud of your commitment to serve both our community and our country. Your bravery and dedication do not go unnoticed, and we will be keeping you in our thoughts until you return home safely.
