Back-To-Back Race Weekends For The JOSC

On September 30th we hosted the Fuzzy Peach Trail Run at Hines Farm. We had 337 people register, up 34% over previous year. After the 5K trail run on a perfect fall-like morning, the participants were able to enjoy Fuzzy Peach frozen yogurt from our title sponsor.

Naturally everyone loved the yogurt (various flavors and topping choices were available) but we also received great reviews on the shirts, the sparkly medals and it was evident that people loved running the trails.

The following Saturday, October 7th, we hosted the first ever Movin’ Mullet 5K, presented by Bob Mills Mitsubishi, in downtown Swansboro. The race was held the Saturday before the Mullet Festival as a kickoff for the all the Mullet Festival festivities. Being a first-year event, we hoped for 200 sign-ups and actually ended up with 243. Our logo for the event was a mullet (fish) with a mullet (hairstyle). The staff all wore mullet wigs and many of the runners did as well, along with loud outfits and accessories. Runners liked the fun atmosphere and everyone loved the medal. The medal was the logo and the fish’s arms moved.

Both events will be back on the schedule next year. There are two more bonus races remaining in the 2023 JOSC Race Series, presented by Guild Mortgage and Team Amy Goss, before the year-end awards. Participants can check the leaderboard here.

Sledgehammer Beach Run

Take in the views and explore North Topsail Beach while running on the beach in either our Half Marathon, 10k or 5k. The mission statement of the "Sledgehammer Race Series" is: To Honor the memory of Sledgehammer and All Combat Veterans." Sledge was a lifelong Marine who spent the remainder of his post war years coming to terms with what he and his fellow combatants experienced during World War II. Part of the proceeds go to Semper Fi & America's Fund.

As an independent nonprofit organization, the Jacksonville-Onslow Sports Commission (JOSC) seeks private support, through its annual giving campaign, to fulfill its mission of enriching our community through sport.
