Salisbury Academy Christmas Happiness Party and Donations for RVO (Rowan Vocational Opportunities)

Mrs. Coulter shares:

Thank you to everyone who contributed items for RVO on Friday's PSA Dress-Down Day! We are coming together again this year to collect donations for Rowan Vocational Opportunities. My middle school exploratory is currently planning for their Christmas party with RVO and will take the party and donations to RVO on Wednesday, December 13.

There is a particular need for personal items. View the RVO wish list for donations here. We will also accept monetary donations (to the attention of Heather Coulter/checks made out to Salisbury Academy) which will be used to purchase priority and bulk items.

These items will be collected in the homeroom classrooms and can be dropped off with me (Mrs. Coulter) at any time. Please contact me with any questions.

Please send all items by Monday, December 11.

PSA Corner: Christmas Gift Fund for Teachers and Staff

Dear Parents of Salisbury Academy,

The PSA is collecting voluntary donations toward a Christmas Gift Fund for the teachers and staff members of Salisbury Academy. We all know how difficult it can be to find just the right gift for each teacher, so, to make your life a bit easier, you can show your appreciation to the entire staff in ONE CHECK! PSA will pool all the money received and deliver Christmas cheer to each teacher and staff member before Christmas break. Contributions will be accepted until Friday, December 8 at the end of the school day. Thank you for your support! Read more here

Engaging Minds: Resources for school families

Over the next three weeks, we will share features created to enhance family and school life that highlight our learning from Dr. Michael Thompson’s November 2 visit. Be sure to click on the links for further resources and reading!

The Impact of the Loss of Play in Childhood

Play defined is spontaneous, undirected, free, imaginative, curious, fantasy activity.

Among negative impacts of the loss of free play are

  • obesity
  • increased stress and anxiety
  • increased fragility and depression in late adolescents
  • social incompetence
  • excessive dependence on parents
  • the loss of contact with nature.

Salisbury Academy is committed to your child's free play! Every grade has morning and afternoon recess daily for free play. For further reading and resources, click here.

PSA Corner

The December PSA meeting will take place on Thursday, Dec. 7. Parents and family members are welcome and encouraged to join!

In the Early Ed. Classes

Classic Tales in the JK Class

Throughout the year, classic tales are introduced to the JK students. These tales introduce students to traditional stories and fables that have been favorites among children for generations. The repetitive refrains in these stories help students build vocabulary and fluency and provide opportunities for students to participate in the telling of the stories. After reading two different versions of the story, the children always enjoy acting the story out. This helps to reinforce learning goals and always brings out smiles and giggles. It is one of the favorite class activities!
