Opportunity Scholarship Spotlight

Have you set up your Opportunity Scholarship portal account? The NCSEAA's Opportunity Scholarship for students in grades K-12 helps families significantly reduce their school tuition costs, and Salisbury Academy will be participating in 2024-25.

The application period for 2024 is Feb. 1 - Mar. 1. Families are encouraged to create an account in the NCSEAA's portal before Feb. 1 to make the 10-minute application process as smooth as possible. The more families who apply, the more funds that will become available!

Math Concepts Come to Life in Fifth Grade Study of Ratios

Students are engaging with their math through hands-on application and bringing their math concepts to life in the fifth grade!

In a recent lab spanning both math and science curricula, students conducted a Fruit Loop lab exploring equivalent ratios and reviewing the scientific method. Students formed hypotheses for the question: “In a box of Fruit Loops, how do the quantities of each color compare?”

Students followed the given procedure to write various ratios, then create equivalent ratios in order to predict how many of each color they would have if they were given 100 or 1,000 Fruit Loops. The use of Fruit Loops as manipulatives brought experiential engagement to the lab while appealing to kinesthetic (hands-on) learners.
