Students in grades 5-8 are invited to compete in a Spooky Story Contest hosted by the Salisbury Academy Library. Entries should be typed, double spaced, and five pages or less. Stories may be printed and dropped off in the library or shared using Google Docs with ksharp@salisburyacademy.org. Please submit all entries by Monday, October 28. Winner will be announced on Halloween and will receive a special Halloween treat bag as well as a Scholastic book of your choice!

Entries will be judged using the following criteria:
Creativity: Is the story original and does it capture the reader’s interest?
Writing mechanics: Did the student use correct punctuation, capitalization and grammar?
Plot and structure: Does the story contain a clear beginning, middle and end? Do the characters in the story encounter problems which they ultimately resolve?
Characters: Are the characters clearly described? Can the reader picture the characters in their mind as they read the story?
Spooky: Is the story spooky without using inappropriate language or disturbing descriptions? Does the story build anticipation and suspense?
