Congrats winter sports athletes
|
Congrats to our athletes, coaches, and families on a strong winter sports season! We were thrilled to launch the SA swim team under the direction of Coach Kelli Starrett, and our five basketball teams gave it their all for a super season. As an outstanding finish to the season, varsity boys and girls basketball teams both won their conference championships. Congratulations also to both the JV girls and boys on finishing runner-up in their conference tournaments.
A special thank you to our coaches: Coach Starrett, Coach Forbes, Coach Willie, Coach Knox, and Coach Thompson. Thank you also to the team parents and the Booster Club for all of your help this season. We couldn't have done it without you.
All-Conference in basketball for the varsity Lady Jags this season were Lucy Barr and Ashley Yang. Conference MVP was Izzy Banish. All-Conference for the JV girls were Emmy Pendleton and Mary Grace Antosek. For the varsity boys, All-Conference were Jacob Mills and Hank Webb. Conference MVP was Deuce Walker. All-Conference for the JV boys were Bryant Davis and John McCoy. Way to go Jags!

The 3 E's of Sustainability
|
Sustainability Coordinator Haleigh Hopkins shares:
There is more to understanding sustainability outside the motto of reuse, reduce, and recycle. The framework known as the "Three E’s of Sustainability" outlines three factors that play a major role in a sustainable future: Environment, Economics, and Equity. These goals are met when equal involvement and commitment are given towards environmental matters that have cost efficiency over time, in the long-run verses short-term.
|
|
Investing in the Long-Run for our Environment
In our society we tend to want things instantaneously, and with that comes negative results that impact our environment. Keeping our air and water clean, our lands free of litter and toxic runoff, and our organisms safe from human interference requires long-term commitment.
There are many ways to be sustainable in an economically manageable way through being mindful of our daily actions.
Some examples of things that we can do to contribute to sustainability are walking or biking instead of driving, having stronger reinforcement on littering and use of chemicals in/out of households, using rain barrels or grey water for watering plants, creating rain gardens, fewer impermeable surfaces (concrete and black top), using LED lights and energy efficient appliances, unplugging devices after use, finding alternate energy sources, using waste-free products, composting, and limiting food waste.
