Sixth grade students created models of the Earth and its many layers to apply their understanding of plate tectonics! Students mapped plate boundaries, looked at where geological activity occurs in these areas, and explored Alfred Wegener's theory of continental drift.

Keeping Calm Amidst Chaos:
Mitigating Anxiety in Children
This Thursday at SA, 6:30 p.m.
|
SA Parents:
We welcome you to Salisbury Academy on Thursday evening of this week for an interesting and important discussion on mitigating anxiety in children of all ages, led by Dr. Michele Mannering.
Join us as Dr. Mannering covers
the early signs of stress in children and helps us recognize when typical childhood worry may have crossed into more serious anxiety. She will discuss what we can do as parents to help our children maintain balance, mitigate anxiety, and develop coping skills and resilience.
Hope to see you there!
Warm Regards,
Bevery Fowler

Fourth Grade Reaches the World
|
|
|
Spanish Teacher Ms. Lewis shares:
For six weeks, fourth grade students have the unique opportunity to see and experience Finland through the eyes of a student traveler named Esteban from UNC Chapel Hill! Esteban was paired with Salisbury Academy through Reach the World, an organization connecting classrooms with student travelers around the world.
|
|
Esteban was raised in a Spanish-speaking household and is spending a semester in Finland. Through our Skype interactions with him and the regular blog updates he shares, we have been able to learn about the daily life, transportation, traditions, and communities in Finland.
We started this journey with a video conference. Esteban shared about the weather in Finland and how different it is compared to his North Carolina home. Each week our students are so excited to check in and see the photos Esteban has posted. This has been a wonderful opportunity for us to talk about what it means to be a global citizen.
Esteban writes in one of his field notes
, “I think it is very easy to look at someone who does things a little differently than you and think, ‘That's so weird!’ when really, it's very natural for him or her. The world is such a vast place. Seeing that and accepting all the differences is an important part of becoming a global citizen. We may not realize it, but many things we are used to originated from different places, like the number system we use! There is value in the differences that separate all of us. We must learn to embrace these differences and appreciate them.”
