As we enter the new year, it is always a wonderful time to consider new resolutions for the year going forward. The global pandemic still follows us into the new year, and we must still consider ways in which we can become more sustainable in our daily lives for the health of others, ourselves, and the planet. A few ideas for you on how you can achieve these goals:
1. To remain healthy and take care of our bodies, it is encouraged that we shop for local fruits and vegetables. One can find out if a food is local by the packaging or the store’s marketing.
2. Buy a new refillable water bottle. Some may be afraid of the quality of their water from the tap. If so, it would be a great investment to purchase a bottle with a filter attachment. Not only will you reduce plastic, but you will get some minerals that bottled water does not serve.
3. Compost your food waste and garden trimmings. Your garden will thank you and so will your pipes and water treatment facilities.
4. Reuse as much as possible! There are many fabulous ways to reuse old items or even packaging. Reusing will reduce your waste and allow you to become creative.
There are many easy ways in which one can make a small difference at home or in daily life to be more sustainable. Becoming sustainable should not feel like a burden or a chore, but rather an opportunity to live for the greater good and tap into your creativity. May 2021 be the year all become more motivated for sustainable living.
Best wishes for a sustainable new year!
