Joy of service, love of community! Fifth grade students enjoyed a productive morning sprucing up the grounds of the Community Care Clinic of Rowan County. The second half of the class will visit to continue the spruce-up in the weeks ahead.

Lucy Barr, Head of School for the Day
SA had a very special guest Head of School on Thursday, eighth-grader Lucy Barr! Lucy shares:
"As the youngest of the Barr clan and with two older siblings who have come through Salisbury Academy before me, my graduation completes 16 years of the Barr family at SA. I have so many favorite memories from my time here. Spring field trips, the Rainforest Cafe in second grade, and going into Mrs. Current's rooms for snacks are just a few!"
Lucy kicked off the day helping at carpool and provided valuable student feedback in meetings on the upcoming Class of 2021 graduation as well as on volleyball uniform selection. Lucy read to a lower school class and then went on to enjoy an afternoon of treats for her class including an extra fun PE class and a special lunch. Congrats on an awesome day as the Head of School, Lucy!

Second grade's study of the life cycle has come to life: The class has been tending to chicken eggs since April 12, and this week they hatched into baby chicks! Second-graders connected with Salisbury High School's zoology class this week via Zoom and learned about the advanced embryology unit the high-schoolers are currently immersed in. |

Happy Cinco de Mayo from the third grade! Third grade students are learning about the history of the Mexican holiday and tying it into their ongoing Spanish language and cultural studies.

Fourth Grade Time Machine |

Traveling through time with SA's fourth grade! Fourth grade students transformed the outdoor space into a time traveling portal on Thursday morning as they presented in first person to their parents and families as historical figures from the past, from recent history to the BC Era. From Thomas Edison to Alexander Hamilton, to Phillis Wheatley, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Peggy Kirk Bell, and others, students did an incredible job performing and sharing their knowledge! Great job fourth grade!! |

Thank you to our eighth grade class for leading us in Thursday's National Day of Prayer. An annual tradition each year on the first Thursday in May, the student-led chapel leads our school community through a series of prayers for our government leaders, communities, school, churches, and families. |

Outdoor Mask Requirement Update |
|
Effective April 30, the outdoor mask requirement has been lifted and allows schools to no longer require that a mask be worn outside. Masks are still required to be worn upon arrival to school each day and while inside the building.

Summer Gift for SA Teachers and Staff
For the next two weeks, PSA will be collecting voluntary donations toward a Summer Gift Fund for the teachers and staff members of Salisbury Academy. We all know how difficult it can be to find just the right gift for each teacher, so, to make your life a bit easier, you can show your appreciation to the entire staff in ONE CHECK!
PSA will pool all the money received and present each teacher and staff member with a monetary gift before summer break. Gifts will be accepted now until Friday, May 21 at the end of the school day. A note with all of the contributing families will accompany each staff gift. read more
