Sixth grade students brought ancient history into the modern-day with an architectural tour of downtown Salisbury and the West Square neighborhood this week. As a part of their study of Ancient Greece, students sought out examples of elements such as columns, pediments, friezes, and more. Some favorite finds were the Rowan County courthouse and private homes on South Fulton and Ellis Streets. View a video of some of the columns they encountered on their tour!

Second Trimester Calendar Update
|
Dear Parents,
Below you will find the calendar for our second trimester which begins November 9. As we continue to adjust and provide a schedule that meets the needs of both our students and staff in the midst of a pandemic year, we made two strategic adjustments to the holiday schedule:
- The first is to close for the week of Thanksgiving to give our students and staff time to rest and connect with family. With many people avoiding air travel, the additional days will allow for travel flexibility without having to manage missing school days.
- The second is to move to a week of distance learning the week of December 14 prior to our Christmas break. This week of learning from home will provide a safe way for students and staff to meet our designated number of school days and still give a window of time for families to safely connect over Christmas. Many of our staff and students have not been able to see grandparents and other family members during this time due to educators being frontline workers during a pandemic.
I am so thankful for the support of the board in this operational decision, and while we are the first to announce this in our area, my weekly conference calls with both local schools and other independent schools in NC are all discussing a similar model. More details on the E-Learning Week will be shared by your child’s teacher in November.
We’ve been so thankful to be a leader in reopening school with daily, in-person instruction and remaining open. Thank you for your incredible support of this amazing team of educators! They’ve tackled big changes with joy and determination, and they continue to keep their focus on a student-centered learning model that has provided much-needed growth and routine to our students and families.
Warm Regards,
Beverly Fowler, Head of School
