Thank you to Happy Roots and student gardener volunteer Mary Masters Goodman (fourth grade) for planting the SA kindergarten garden with lettuce, carrots, radishes, and spinach! Kindergarten students, pictured here, look forward to tending the garden over the course of the year and witnessing how food is planted, grown, and harvested.

Health and Safety Updates: Thank you for your partnership and Symptom Presentation Chart
|
Dear Salisbury Academy Families,
As we begin week 9 of in-person instruction at Salisbury Academy, we want to say thank you again for the incredible partnership and support we have received from our families. This has been essential to keeping our school community safe and providing the transparent communication needed to remain open.
The work of reopening and establishing the health/safety protocols required for a safe environment would not be possible without the ongoing guidance of our local health department, Novant, Salisbury Academy Medical Task Force, and the generous time given by Nurse Turner. This group engages in weekly meetings and conversations to ensure that our policies, procedures, and decisions are up-to-date and in accordance with the North Carolina Department of Health guidelines.
Noted here in the updated Symptom Presentation Chart, you will see the description for our high risk and low risk symptoms. With allergy season and flu season approaching, it will be important that our families adhere to these guidelines to keep our community safe.
High risk symptoms require that a students be sent home and that a physician visit takes place before the student returns: Fever (100.4 or higher), cough (new, uncontrolled cough), shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, and new loss of taste of smell.
Low risk symptoms require a student be sent home. If one low risk symptom is present, the student can return to school after 36 fever-free hours and improvement of symptoms. If two more low-risk symptoms present, the student must see a provider for testing or evaluation. Low risk symptoms include sore throat, runny nose/congestion, muscle pain/body aches, nausea/vomiting, headache, diarrhea, and fatigue/tiredness.
Thank you Nurse Turner
The work we’ve done to date wouldn’t be possible without the gift of time with volunteer Nurse Sonja Turner. Her involvement and shared knowledge have helped us to lay the groundwork for a healthy year together. She has generously given of her time in a full-time capacity the first nine weeks and provided valuable student, staff, and parent support.
Beginning next week, Nurse Turner's time with us will transition to part time and then to as-needed in the coming months. The school will continue to review weekly data and adjust as needed in this area. The nurse@salisburyacademy.org address will still be used to communicate with the school regarding any questions on health/safety protocols. Our Medical Task Force will be consulted as needed and in any circumstance when the information falls outside of what we have outlined in our SA COVID-19 Handbook.
In Partnership,
Beverly Fowler, Head of School
