Fifth grade students enjoyed two culinary chemistry labs this week. In the first lab they wrote invisible messages with baking soda and water and uncovered them using a natural reactant: blackberries! Next up, SA parent and Catawba professor Dr. ChaMarra Saner provided supplies and led the students virtually in an ice cream science lab exploring the different states of matter. Pictured here, students shake their concoctions of milk, cream, sugar, and vanilla over ice and rock salt to create the solid ice cream. Throughout the process students recorded the temperature of the ice cream with digital thermometers. The coldest temperature recorded was negative 18 degrees Celsius!

Music to our Ears: Learning rhythm and beat through sound stories
|
Early Ed. Assistant Mrs. Jana Thomas is an organist, pianist, and all-around lover of music! Each week she is having musical adventures with junior kindergarten and kindergarten students and teaching rhythm and beat through sound stories. The key learning focus is on moving responsively to music, recognizing and playing a steady beat, and identifying instruments by sight and sound. Students and teachers are currently unable to sing in class for health and safety reasons, and this is a fun opportunity to find other ways to express and develop a love for music, Mrs. Thomas shares.

Why support the SA Annual Fund? The Easter family shares:
"Salisbury Academy truly feels like a family to us. We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful group of teachers, faculty, and leaders educating and caring for our children while teaching strong values. Giving back is important to our family because we believe that by helping, in whatever way we can, we make our SA family stronger. We want our children to know that being able to give back is a privilege, and we want them to see that belief modeled." Pictured here: Megan Easter, second grade, created a Cinderella castle during an E-Learning Day as part of the class CKLA unit on fairytales.
