ERF Fridays: What are your teachers doing on Friday afternoons?
Dear Salisbury Academy Parents,

Students need teachers who are just as interested in their own growth as they are in their students' growth, and ongoing training and feedback is the foundation for effective teaching.

The Salisbury Academy faculty is a community of life-long learners committed to growing in their knowledge and understanding of child development and research-based educational trends. An important time that provides the faculty/staff with sustained and intensive professional development comes each Friday from 1:45 - 3:30 p.m. through our weekly ERF activities (Early Release Fridays). During ERF, our entire faculty and staff participate in professional development planned to meet identified curricular and instructional needs from goals set and evaluated annually by the academic team.

This quarter our ERF topics include:  K-12 curriculum competencies, student learning support, peer team coaching, and tech competencies and tools for instruction.

Almost 80 hours a year are dedicated to in-house training which Salisbury Academy teachers utilize along with outside workshops and courses to meet the required annual hours for teacher renewal certification through the North Carolina Department of Instruction.

Our teaching staff is selected for their knowledge of curriculum, the degrees they hold, experience, professionalism, and desire to be involved in the lives of children. Our average tenure of teaching experience is 18 years!

As our ERF and professional development reflect, SA faculty and staff are deeply committed as a team to inspiring a love of learning and preparing passionate leaders through discovery, stewardship, community, and faith.

Sincerely,

Beverly Fowler, Head of School

Bringing Joy and Promoting Leadership: First and eighth grade buddy program

A meaningful tradition at Salisbury Academy, the first and eighth grade buddy program for this year kicked off on Monday with the first buddy meeting. Excitement was high as eighth-graders read books with their first grade friends, laughed, and got to know one another.

The buddies plan to meet monthly and join together in service outreach throughout the school year.

One of the many benefits of a JK through 8 education, the first/eighth grade buddy program nurtures leadership in older students while building community and a strong sense of belonging in SA's younger learners.
