Wishing our SA Families a Merry Christmas
Look for your next Jag Weekly on Dec. 30
Dear Salisbury Academy Families,

There is a special energy in the air! With just over one week of school remaining until Christmas break begins, students and faculty are working hard to complete projects and units while celebrating the holiday season through song and service.

On behalf of everyone at Salisbury Academy, I would like to wish our families a wonderful Christmas holiday and offer the very best wishes for a successful and happy 2019!

Please look for your next Jag Weekly on Sunday, December 30. The video of the Christmas Extravaganza will be shared on Salisbury Academy's Facebook page and website prior to Christmas and will also be included in the December 30 Jag Weekly.
Warm Regards,

Beverly Fowler, Head of School

First grade students were all smiles after singing carols and reading holiday stories to their friends at Trinity Living Center.

K through 8 Students Learn the Language of Code at SA
Lower School Division Director Mrs. Anderson shares:

We live in a world surrounded by technology. As a result of this, our students' ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works, no matter which field they choose to pursue.

Interestingly enough, only a tiny fraction of us are learning how technology works. Only 35% of all high schools teach computer science.

That's why Salisbury Academy teaches coding beginning in kindergarten and why our students in grades K-4 joined in on the largest learning event in history this week: The Hour of Code. A movement to promote coding literacy and interest in computer science, Hour of Code is a series of labs that take place each year during the week of December 3-9. More than 100 million students worldwide have already participated in Hour of Code.

This week, SA students mastered coding terminology and advanced through 13 levels of code in the program "Dance Party." Joining in with their animated character creations, students danced along to tunes from Bruno Mars, Bruce Springsteen, Katy Perry, and Sia (just to name a few). SA students know from experience that coding is fun. This week's coding labs served as an exciting reminder of this!
Fourth grade students display the coding certificates that they earned during the Hour of Code week.

Every Gift Counts: Parking Spot Raffle

As a thank you for contributing to the Every Gift Counts Annual Fund, we're giving away a reserved parking spot!

Don't miss your chance to be included in the drawing for a reserved parking spot in front of the main office. Two lucky families' names will be drawn during our Christmas Extravaganza on December 18.  Each family chosen will have access to the spot for half of the upcoming calendar year.

Deadline for participation in the drawing is December 15. All families who have already given will be automatically entered into the drawing.

Endangered Species Poster Contest: Posters due Dec. 11
Students in K-8 are invited to compete in our Salisbury Academy school-wide Endangered Species Awareness Poster Contest.  The top 3 winners in each age division will be sent to the NC Zoo to compete in the state-wide Endangered Species Awareness Poster Contest.

Students will need to have their completed poster turned in to Mrs. Anderson or Mrs. Overcash by Tuesday, December 11. A panel of judges will review the posters and announce a winner by December 14!

We are asking for your help with the following:

  • Toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, deodorant, hand sanitizer, disposable women's and men's razors, shaving cream/gel, Q-tips, lip balm, lotion and hand cream, cosmetic and vanity kits, shampoo and conditioner, shower gel, bar soap, tissues, perfume/cologne)
  • Combs and brushes
  • Men's and women's sweatshirts (and hoodies) and sweatpants (medium to 5XL)
  • Thermal tops and bottoms (medium to 5XL)
  • Men's crew-neck and V-neck t-shirts (large to 5XL)

These items will be collected in the homeroom classrooms and can be dropped off with Mrs. Coulter at any time.  Monetary donations are also greatly appreciated and will be used by Mrs. Coulter to purchase priority items.  Please contact her with any questions.  Please send all items by Wednesday, December 12.
