Spreading the Love: Students' hearts for SA and their community
Dear Salisbury Academy Families,

In these days leading up to Valentines Day, our third grade students have done a beautiful job sharing some of the things that they most love about Salisbury Academy. A few of their reflections, written on paper rose petals on a rose-themed bulletin board in the hallway, are:
  • "What I most love about SA are the teachers."
  • "I love the people at SA that make it true."
  • "The third thing I love about Salisbury Academy is the outdoor space."

Fifth grade students experimented with water absorption in vascular and nonvascular plants.

SA Book Fair

Staff Work Day

No school for students

Presidents Day Holiday
Monday, Feb. 18
No school for students or staff

Whether through community, engaged learning, caring teachers, friendship, discovery, or play, our students' hearts grow every day for their school. Making this journey all the more inspiring, it is wonderful to see how this love permeates into all that our students do for their families, friends, and larger community.

Keeping with the Valentines theme, here at SA first and eighth grade buddies made Valentines cards this week that were delivered in person by first grade students to their friends at Trinity Living Center.  Next week, we look forward to a special Meals on Wheels service project by Mrs. Starrett's advisory on Valentines Day, and just this week SA faculty and staff enjoyed delivering a round of Meals on Wheels lunches.

Wishing everyone a sweet week with those you hold dear!
Warm Regards,

Beverly Fowler, Head of School

Instilling a Love of the Outdoors: Spring planting to enhance Outdoor Learning Space thanks to 2018 Fund-a-Need donors
Gorgeous spring weather inspired oodles of outdoor play and exploration this week! Further enhancing the Outdoor Learning and Play Space at SA, a spring planting will build beds and install a variety of native plants throughout the grounds.

Outdoor Learning Space features to be landscaped are the learning circle, older children's playground, gaga ball court, global motion, and the half court, with trees, shrubs, flowering perennials, herbs, ferns, ground covers, and grasses to be planted throughout.

In a full-circle connection, 60 hardwood trees - oak, hickory, and crab apple - donated by the Land Trust from last year's hardwood planting event have been cared for over the past year and are ready to be planted at SA. At last year's event, middle school students joined with other volunteers to plant 5,000 hardwood trees on the Land Trust's Two Rivers property.

Other trees and shrubs to be installed include holly, magnolia, wax myrtles, loblolly pines, and butterfly bushes. Plants to look forward to seeing on the playground include lavender, daylilies, cinnamon ferns, honeysuckle, river oats, and more!

This final stage of planting is in thanks to donations made by the Bloom 2018 Fund-a-Need. Thanks to all who participated in the Fund-A-Need and made this exciting beautification possible!
"Passion is lifted from the earth itself by the muddy hands of the young; it travels along grass-stained sleeves to the heart. If we are going to save environmentalism and the environment, we must also save an endangered indicator species: the child in nature."
