Thankful for Your Partnership, and Culminating the 2018-19 School Year
Dear Salisbury Academy Parents,

As we enter the final full week of the 2018-19 school year, I thank you, on behalf of the entire Salisbury Academy team, for your partnership over the course of this fantastic year of learning and growth. You have generously volunteered and served as grade parents, committee members, field trip drivers, class party organizers, middle school dance decorators, and given your time to support these students and our school.

The days ahead will be a culmination of our year. Thursday morning's Eighth Grade Chapel will be led by our soon-to-be graduates and will include a slideshow of pictures of the Class of 2019, a student-made video, and some fun skits by our eighth grade along with an awards presentation for perfect attendance, the SA Citizenship Award, yearbook dedication, and more.

And of course, there will be much fun to be had the following week at Field Day, yearbook signings, class adventures, and graduation!

As we all look ahead to our end of the 2018-2019 school year, may we take a moment to pause, reflect, and show appreciation for our year together. We will enjoy our final days of this school year and look forward to welcoming everyone back enthusiastically in August of 2019!
Warm Regards,

Beverly Fowler, Head of School

SA's Second Grade Celebrates their Learning at the Rainforest Cafe
Second Grade Teacher Mrs. Williams shares:

The Rainforest Café is a second grade tradition at Salisbury Academy, as is second grade unit on the rainforest that precedes it. This year students listened to poetry on the rainforest and composed acrostic poems of their own. Consonant blends have been reviewed in phonics using rainforest terms. Second grade students also researched a rainforest animal using World Book Online and wrote reports on their animals. In the computer lab with Mrs. Anderson, they created a Google slide presentation with graphics. This slideshow was on display during the Rainforest Café on May 24.

All areas of the curriculum were incorporated into the rainforest unit. In art class with Mrs. Shelton, the class created birds of the region. Lessons on money in math taught the second-graders how to subtract across zero, solve multi-step money problems, and count out change - important skills that they would put to use in their Rainforest Café.

At the Rainforest Café presentation on Friday, students performed a rap and a song for parents that shared memorized factual information about the "Earth's Green Belt." After the program, the class hosted their guests who enjoyed delicious treats from the rainforest. The children served as waiters and waitresses - and even made correct change for their guests - while their parents and special friends dined under the Great Kapok Tree.

July Piano Lessons with Dr. Rob: Summer sessions
Dear Parents,

Dr. Rob will hold a three-week session of private piano lessons (two per week) in July. The days/dates will be Mondays through Thursdays of July 8 through July 25. Each student will have two half-hour lessons per week, $25 per lesson, on either Mondays/Wednesdays or Tuesdays/Thursdays. Because July is full of vacations and other activities, Dr. Rob will only require attendance at two of the three weeks. In other words, each student may miss one or two lessons if necessary. Therefore, the total for the summer session may range from four lessons ($100) to six lessons ($150). This is a great opportunity for any parents wishing to let their child "test the waters" a little without a full long-term commitment. Recommended ages are rising second grade and up, although rising first-graders could be considered.

Lost and Found

The Lost and Found table will be cleared and processed into the uniform closet at the end of the school year. Please have your children stop by to look for any items that belong to them. Thank you!

Purchase a Brick in Honor of an SA Grad

Please fill out the brick order form  and return to the front office if you are interested in taking part. Thank you!
