Veterans Day Chapel 2019 was a celebration of and expression of gratitude for those who serve and have served our country. Salisbury Academy was honored to welcome key speaker and Navy veteran Maiya Keeling of the VA, the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard, and representatives from the VA, Trinity Oaks, the school and larger community, and local government for this meaningful assembly.

SAIS Reaccreditation Visit: An exciting three days ahead
Dear Salisbury Academy Families:

Beginning today, we are pleased to welcome an accrediting team from the SAIS (Southern Association of Independent Schools) to Salisbury Academy. The team will be visiting through Tuesday and is comprised of four members: Dr. Jeff Mitchell, Head of School for Currey Ingram Academy; Ms. Tamika Jackson, School Director for New Hope Christian Academy; Mr. Eddie Mensah, Head of School for Charlotte Preparatory School; and Ms. Kim Peele, Dean of Students for The Fletcher Academy.

The visit is the final step in the SAIS reaccreditation process that takes place every five years. We very much look forward to maximizing our learning and growth over these three days. Over the course of their visit, the accrediting team will tour the school, meet our faculty and staff, engage in classroom visits, and have discussions with Salisbury Academy's board, students, and parents.

Many thanks to our SA parents for your participation in surveys, stakeholder groups, and other feedback, as these have all provided data and insights to help us craft Salisbury Academy's strategic goals and get the most out of the reaccreditation process.

Warm Regards,

Beverly Fowler, Head of School

Sustainability Reaches the Lunch Room at SA: Thank you Habeeb Catering
SA's commitment to sustainability and teaching environmental stewardship through classroom learning and outside adventures can now be witnessed in the warming kitchen as well!

Partnering with us in sustainability, Habeeb Catering is changing from Styrofoam to a more sustainable plate and bowl product made from plant-based and paper materials. The new, biodegradable products will be introduced December 1. Additionally, students will no longer use plastic forks and spoons but will enjoy reusable, stainless steel silverware. As part of this exciting shift toward biodegradable materials and a significant reduction in our landfill contributions, SA students will have ownership over the coming weeks in educating one another on items that can be recycled as part of their daily lunch, snack, and school routines.

Student Wellness Seminar: The Truth About Vaping

Students in grades 6-8 will be in attendance as well. Families are welcome and encouraged to attend.

A note from Mrs. Goodman on the program:

In this ever-changing world, our faculty has a strong desire to nurture the well-being of our students and support the whole child along their educational journey. To that end, I am excited to introduce a series of wellness-based educational opportunities for our students and families. Recent parent surveys have helped to guide our planning, and I am so appreciative to those families that shared their insights with us. Our first Wellness Seminar is next week and will address a frightening epidemic that is sweeping the nation. Students in grades 6-8 will attend, and we hope that parents will also join us.

Sincerely,
Jessica Goodman
