The Wonder of SA: Wishing our families a joyful Thanksgiving
Dear Salisbury Academy Families,

This month we have studied the virtue "wonder" as a school and taken time to mindfully observe, reflect upon, and show gratitude for the beauty, magic, and talent that surrounds us. Indeed the Salisbury Academy community is an endless source of this wonder!

This Thanksgiving season, I thank you for being part of our very special school community. It is because of our dedicated parents, students, and staff, and a supportive network of alumni and alumni families, that Salisbury Academy continues to be a unique and vibrant place to learn and grow! We are incredibly thankful for you all and wish you a very happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday.

Looking ahead, the expression and celebration of gratitude continues with an upcoming Corporate Partner chapel on Thursday, December 5. During this chapel we will thank our Corporate Partners and find inspiration in messages from two students: Salisbury Academy Broyhill scholar Isaiah Woods and SA eighth-grader Madisyn White.

Happy Thanksgiving from your Salisbury Academy family. Wishing everyone a very joyful season of gratitude!

Warm Regards,

Beverly Fowler, Head of School

Discovery Center Genius Hour: Empowering students to explore their passions

Lower School Division Director Mrs. Anderson shares:

For just over a month, lower school students have been hard at work creating their Genius Hour projects! Genius Hour is time set aside in class for students to study their passion through a new idea or skill once a week during Discovery Center time.

This time to research a topic of choice is a way of promoting, supporting, and modeling creative and innovative thinking. Through these experiences students take ownership in their own learning and are empowered to learn about something they want to learn about! Genius Hour sparks curiosity, and students have an opportunity to become their own Genius. Student projects included the arts, robotics, coding, animals, and even how to DJ!

Goals of Genius Hour:
  • To allow students an opportunity to discover and investigate one of their passions
  • To provide students an opportunity to develop skill sets that are valuable in any learning situation
  • To reflect on their learning
  • To learn from mistakes and how to navigate and research road-blocks
  • To grow through sharing their projects with others
