Mrs. Coulter shares on eighth grade's "Poetry of Nature" experience this week at the Timberlake Earth Sanctuary:  Authentic connections to nature through brilliant blue skies, a crisp, gentle breeze, encounters with deer and other wildlife, and the promise of an autumn to come served as inspiration for profound and moving poetry. This peaceful day in nature re-enlivened our spirits and our creativity. Students embraced the opportunity to observe, reflect, create, and share. Stay tuned for our published poems.

A Super Fall Sports Season - Go Jags!
The Jaguars have moves! Friday's Pep Rally finished with a dance-off.
Dear Salisbury Academy Families:

The fall sports season is coming to an exciting end with several teams having completed their season and others in the final stretch. For the success and growth experienced this season we extend a heartfelt thank you to Athletic Director Tommy Wilson, to our team parents, and to our coaches: Mohamed Eliwa (JV soccer), John Hlavacek (varsity soccer), Rick Turner (JV and varsity volleyball), Kelli Starrett (cross country), Coach Wilson (cross country), and Bryan Wymbs (tennis).

Congratulations to JV soccer on finishing their regular season as conference champs and to our tennis team on another winning season. Good luck to our teams entering their conference championships next week: JV volleyball as well as varsity soccer and varsity volleyball entering their tournaments as number 1 seeds. Cross country will compete in their championship on October 21 with the girls defending last year's championship and the boys looking for their fourth championship in five years.

Friday's Fall Pep Rally was a spirited way to celebrate our fall athletes and show our Jaguar pride!

Warm Regards,

Beverly Fowler, Head of School

Fourth Grade Heart Projects: Students share their knowledge with the class
Fourth grade teacher Mrs. Ellsworth shares:  Students in the fourth grade showed creativity and depth of understanding in their presentations on the structure and function of the heart. The presentations culminated their study of the circulatory system during which we have learned about  the heart, blood composition, blood type and compatible donors, heart rate as related to activity, and overall heart health.

As part of their learning experience students participated in hands-on labs and enjoyed a presentation by SA parent and nurse practitioner Nichole Towns demonstrating heart health tools (stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, and oxygen monitor).

Students were given the creative freedom to design a heart model that best represented them as learners for their final product. Whether a painting, sculpture, digital presentation, or some other format, each project was required to include the fifteen circulatory system terms and correctly demonstrate the flow of blood through the body. Students were also required to present their projects and demonstrate how the heart works. The students did a fantastic job applying their knowledge from this unit and explaining their work!
