Jajja's Kids will be hosting an exciting brunch get-together Sunday, October 19 from Noon to 3 PM at Revolution Hall located in Brown's Brewing Co. at 425 River Street, Troy, NY 12180. We hope you will be there!

At the event, you will hear inspiring stories about the progress made by our Kids and enjoy an amazing brunch. Net proceeds will benefit the increasing school expenses for our young people as they progress in their vocational and educational journeys.

Schedule of Speakers

Executive Director, Diane Reiner will speak about her recent visit to Jajja's Kids in Uganda and will introduce our young people through videos of her meetings with them, which will sure to be one of the highlights of the event!

Uganda Program Director, Ronnie Sseruyange is expected to attend and provide an update. We are very pleased to have esteemed author and Albany Times Union columnist Paul Grondahl as our Keynote Speaker.

Paul Grondahl is the Opalka Endowed Director of the New York State Writers Institute at the University at Albany, one of the nation’s pre-eminent literary presenting organizations.

He is an award-winning journalist and author, whose many books include political biographies of Teddy Roosevelt and Albany Mayor Erastus Corning 2nd.

He was a full-time reporter for 32 years at the Albany Times Union, where he still contributes a weekly column. Paul has generously written kind articles about Jajja's Kids in his column.

He has received numerous local, state, and national writing prizes including the Scripps Howard National Journalism Award for web reporting in 2003 for a series on the impact of AIDS and famine in sub-Saharan Africa. Grondahl accepted his awards at The National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

His most recent book, a biography of Andy Rooney, will be published by SUNY Press next fall.

Brunch Proceeds Benefit Jajja's Kids Educational Costs

Proceeds from the brunch will be used to help meet Jajja's Kids educational expenses. As the Kids get older and move into secondary or vocational school or university, tuition and other educational expenses increase. As our Kids reach for their goals and dreams, we are committed to meet these costs.

The photo above is Juma. He became a Jajja's Kid in December 2013 at the age of 11. Juma’s journey is a true success story. He recently graduated from Buganda Royal Institute with a Certificate in Catering and Hotel Management, an achievement made possible through his determination and love for cooking.

Throughout his studies, Juma’s passion for the culinary arts kept him focused and motivated, and we are proud to see those efforts pay off as he now works as a chef in a local restaurant.

Even as he builds his own life and lives independently, Juma has remained deeply connected to Jajja's Kids. On weekends, he often returns to lend a hand in the kitchen, preparing delicious meals for the children and checking in with the team.

His continued presence and generosity remind us of the lasting bonds formed at Jajja's Kids and the way education nurtures not just independence, but a spirit of giving back.
