Hello Marion,
July is Property and Casualty Insurance month at FSA and, as we dive into beach days, road trips, and backyard barbecues, it’s the perfect time to check in on something that can get overlooked: your property and casualty insurance coverage.
What’s Property and Casualty Insurance Anyway?
Okay, let’s break it down: property and casualty insurance — often just called P&C insurance — is basically your financial safety net for the unexpected stuff life throws your way.
| | | | Property insurance helps protect the things you own — like your home, your car, your belongings — if they get damaged, stolen, or destroyed. Fire? Storm? Theft? This is the kind of coverage that can help you repair or replace your stuff without draining your savings. | | | | Casualty insurance is all about liability — in other words, it helps protect you if someone else gets hurt or their property gets damaged and they say it's your fault. Say your dog bites a delivery driver or someone slips on your driveway. This coverage can help with legal costs, medical bills, or settlements. | | |
Most of the time, you’ll see these bundled together in things like:
- Homeowners insurance
- Auto insurance
- Renters insurance
- Landlord or business insurance
Think of P&C insurance as a mix of “protect my stuff” and “protect me if something goes wrong.” It doesn’t cover everything (like healthcare or life insurance), but it covers a lot of the everyday risks that could lead to some seriously expensive problems.
| | | | |
It’s a solid, financial best practice to revisit your P&C insurance at least every 1 – 2 years or when significant life events happen.
Some of these may include:
| | |
Buying or Selling Big Stuff
- New car, home, or expensive valuables? Make sure they're covered.
Moving or Renovating
- Your address and home features can affect rates and coverage needs.
Starting a Business or Side Hustle
- Even running a small biz from home might need extra protection.
Having Major Life Changes
- Marriage, divorce, kids, retirement — all of these can impact your risk profile and insurance needs.
Seeing Premium Spikes or Drops
- Big changes in your premium? Time to dig in and maybe shop around.
| | |
In short: it’s one of those things you hope you never need, but you’ll be really glad you have if something unexpected happens.
Please reach out any time with your questions — we are always happy to help!
| | Summer Playlist by Team FSA | | Add these team-curated summer songs to your playlists for BBQs, road trips, pool days, beach travel, playing in the sprinkler, or slow warm evenings watching the sunset while sipping lemonade on the porch. In our opinion, these are the most summery summer songs that ever summered! | |
