What's Happening this week: Program Salvation Army
Message from President Sara Beacham
Greetings!

One week down, 51 weeks to go! So far, 2022 has not disappointed. This weekend’s weather has been glorious. I had the opportunity to take a nice long walk with a good friend this weekend, spent some time with family, and had lots of cuddles with my fur babies.

In the second week of 2022, Soroptimist International of Chico turns 92. Happy Birthday to US! In fact, today is our birthday – January 11. Cue the music! Remember to RSVP for our birthday party next week on January 19. Don’t forget to register for any guests you are bringing too.

This week we get the opportunity to hear from the Salvation Army. Our club has a long and rich history with the Salvation Army. For our 75th birthday, our club donated $75,000 to help build the women’s wing at the Salvation Army Rehabilitation Center, and most recently, our club donated $10,000 to the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation and Transitional Living Program to assist with their curriculum and mental health programs. It’s going to be great to hear how the money will be spent and how they are improving the lives of women through their programs.

I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday

President Sara

Major Ray Yant has served The Salvation Army as an Officer for almost 25 years. His vision for the Chico community came to fruition 13 years ago when The Chico Adult Rehabilitation Program was completed and open for intake. This program has since graduated over 700 individuals, and provided rehabilitation services to more than 2500 individuals. As the Administrator, he provides leadership and supervision to the eight thrift stores that fund the ARP, along with the program staff.  AND HE IS THE BEST BOSS EVER

Jodene Setera is the Program Director and Human Resource Director for The Salvation Army Chico Adult Rehabilitation & Transitional Living Program and has worked for The Salvation Army for more than 12 years. She is a Chico State Graduate with a BA in English Literature and a Certified Substance Use Disorder Counselor. Jodene is dedicated to responding to the changing needs of the individuals and families in our community.

I need your help. I am getting concerned about the small number of hotel reservations have been made to date. The areas of the hotel we use for the conference itself, the market area, and the breakout rooms are directly tied to the number of hotel rooms that are booked. I really would appreciate it if you would register for your hotel rooms within the next 10 days. That will help us understand whether we are going to have a successful conference or if the Region is going to take an economic hit on this event. I understand we are still dealing with some uncertainty with regards to COVID-19 and the new strains that are spiking in numbers. But I can assure you from my experience with the Atlantis and attending lunches there weekly, they are not having issues within their venue. So, let’s get the room reservations made so that we can move forward in our plans for conference.

Wishing you all a great New Year.

Best,

Governor Sarah

January Fur Baby and Member of the Month - Chai and Carla Bee

Meet Chai our 6 year old Apple Head Chihuahua.

She’s obviously a special little girl, who enjoys her walks through Bidwell Park, traveling with us in the RV and snuggling anytime she can. She’s very timid and doesn’t take to strangers at all. Which makes her a ferocious watch dog. LOL

When we’re not traveling in our RV, my partner Don & I enjoy kayaking, biking and just enjoying the outdoors.
I joined Soroptimist 3 years ago. I thoroughly enjoy the women I’ve met and strongly support the mission of supporting women and girls here locally and internationally.
Dress a Girl update…. We plan to get together at Cathy’s Sew&Vac as soon as it’s safe (those nights are so fun & productive!), but with the recent wave of Covid in Butte County, we feel it would be safer to start by individually making some dresses at home.

Let’s get started!
