This Sunday in Worship from Pastor Darren:
For the next two Sundays Rev. Phil Dorrell will be our guest preacher. He's filling in for me while I visit my granddaughter in Toronto. This Sunday tune in at 11 a.m. and be ready to answer Phil’s question, “What keeps you going?”
Here's more on Rev. Dorrell (pictured above): Rev. Philip Dorrell, an Indianapolis native, is a graduate of Butler University and Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. He pastored United Methodist churches across central Indiana from 1975 until retiring in 2016.
Phil and Tona have been married since 1972, have three children, and are grateful to have all six grandchildren living within a 20-minutes' drive. In retirement Phil enjoys reading, playing the trumpet, and tutoring adult literacy students.
Tona and Phil have been happy to call North UMC their church home since fall 2016. They appreciate its music, liturgy and preaching, its diversity, and its advocacy.
Sermon Title: "What Keeps You Going?"

North's Justice and Advocacy Team invites you to an online event that focuses on current events and challenges us with the historical words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Entitled “Social Justice Provocations Inspired by the Words of MLK Jr.,” it will be held via Zoom at 6:30 p.m. this coming Monday, Jan. 18, which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The program will be presented by Orson Mason, who is a member of North Church, an active and passionate civic leader and volunteer, and the former chief diversity and inclusion officer for IU Health. Using Dr. King’s own words he will provide opportunities for us to find personal relevance in these inspiring quotes and share our evolving insights regarding racial understanding. It is sure to be a very informative and thought-provoking program.

Children and Families
'Week 2: Beatitudes' Sunday School Lesson Available
If you and your child missed Sunday school on Jan. 10 you can find it on the North Church Children’s Ministry YouTube page. We continued learning about the Beatitudes, how they are structured, and why Jesus told them to the crowd of people. As you know the Beatitudes or The Sermon on the Mount are nine blessings or promises beginning with “Blessed are..” In Jesus’s time these nine blessings were contrary to the current culture. On Sunday we will learn about the first one: "Blessed are the poor in spirit." We will talk about the children’s feelings and how God blesses all of their feelings. For more information email Amy.
