New Year, Exciting News!
The Rotary Club of Davidson pledged to sponsor four scholarships for new SCC members in 2022. Scholarships are available to individuals who may benefit from services and need assistance in joining as a full member. Thanks to the generous support of the Davidson Rotary Club, SCC is looking forward to sharing our services with more of our community members and neighbors.
Thank you to the Peninsula Community Foundation for supporting SCC's crucial mission through grant funding that will enable us to share our organization's mission even further!
We are thrilled to be a PCF partner organization, alongside the other incredible nonprofits in Lake Norman.
First Place Winner
Thank you to our many friends for your support by voting for our tree during the Giving Tree Village. Because you took the time to vote for SCC, we won first place and therefore, additional grant funding. THANK YOU! For an organization of our size, every gift counts! Thank you also to our business sponsor, the Vine Society & to our dedicated Giving Tree Village committee leader, Wendy Powell, and our lovely volunteers who dedicated their time and talents to our tree.
In 2021, our volunteers performed 300+ services including: friendly calls and visits, help in the yard and around the house, technology assistance, errands,
transportation, programs & events, and more to seniors in our network.

SENIOR LIVING
Bare branches of each tree
on this chilly January morn
look so cold so forlorn.
Gray skies dip ever so low
left from yesterday's dusting of snow.
Yet in the heart of each tree
waiting for each who wait to see
new life as warm sun and breeze will blow,
like magic, unlock springs sap to flow,
buds, new leaves, then blooms will grow.

January Morn

COLD WEATHER TIPS
  • Make sure to stay hydrated. Cold, dry air contributes to moisture- loss.
  • Minimize fall risks. Make sure porches, walkways, driveways, steps, and sidewalks are safe for navigating. Wear well-fitting shoes with non- slip soles.
  • Be careful with space heaters. Inspect cords and throw away any faulty or damaged devices. Keep heaters far away from flammable materials such as cloth and paper. Make sure fire alarms are in good working order.
  • Use caution with electric blankets. Replace old blankets. Look for a model that has an automatic shutoff feature. If in doubt on whether it is safe to use medically, ask your physician first.
  • Bundle up! Scarves, hats, mittens, and lots of layers are important. Even when indoors, wear warm, comfortable layers. Consider slipper with a back and grippers on socks and other indoor footwear.
