Jan. 23, 2019
More than 230 educators from throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region came to Valley on Monday, Jan. 21 for the 8th Annual Lutheran Educators Conference to share ideas and attend workshops.
I wonder, has your life settled down in this New Year? December sure was a busy time for our family. Christmas concerts, extra church services, gift buying, family gatherings, along with the regular activities of a busy family, created a chaos that made me feel there was no control over my life. As 2018 is history and we begin to write the history of 2019, I am reminded that God is in control and the history that is being written is HIS story. Isaiah 46:9-11: says, "Remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done ... Indeed, I have spoken it; I will also bring it to pass."
I am constantly reminded that God is in charge of our lives, leading and guiding us. He exhorts us to remember his promises and to live lives that honor and glorify Him. If we do not remember, we become proud, selfish, sinful human beings that only focus on our wants and needs. When this happens we miss being a part of HIS story. Taking part in His will produces a life of endless blessings and peace. Life still may be crazy, but there is a sense of God being in control of our lives.

As we roll into 2019, I have a sense of excitement and anticipation. Where will God lead me this year? (It's going to be a very exciting year for me personally and for Valley Lutheran High School.) I know that there will be challenges ahead, but He is in control. He will direct our paths and help us through the challenges that we have. God has blessed us with purpose and the incredible opportunity to be a part of writing His story. So when 2019 gets crazy and out of control, remember God's promises that he will neither leave us or forsake us and He wants us to be a part of the greatest story in the history of the world.

Welcome Mrs. Kelsey!
Parents and students have been welcomed by a new face each morning in the office. Trisha Kelsey joined the staff on a part-time basis at the beginning of the school year and moved into a full time role after holiday break. She serves as the attendance secretary and helps out in athletics. Contact her at or call 989-790-1676 with any attendance updates or changes. Please report absences by 9am or you will be called.
Remind Service and Verizon
Recently, we received notification that Verizon Wireless customers will no longer be receiving Remind notices via text message starting on January 28, 2019. This news is unfortunate, as Remind is used to communicate school-wide closures and emergency notifications here at Valley Lutheran. Many of our athletic teams, music ensembles, drama groups, and other extra-curricular activities also make use of Remind as an efficient means of communication. Remind and Verizon are in continued talks to attempt to resolve the issue, but as of now, do not currently have an agreement in writing.

Individuals who are registered to receive Remind communications will still receive notifications through the Remind app and via email, regardless of your cellular carrier. Likewise, if your cellular service is provided by a company other than Verizon Wireless, you will still receive text notifications. If you are a Verizon Wireless customer, we encourage you to download the Remind app and allow notifications on your cell phone. Valley Lutheran will continue to use Remind in addition to our other established methods of communication for school-wide closures and emergency notifications.

Guidance Corner
Keeping up to date on all of the apps students use can be difficult, especially when they are created with the intent to be secretive or deceitful. Dr. Tim Elmore lays out five apps that are popular right now that you should know about as a parent.

Do you have an interesting job? Would you be willing to answer questions from students regarding your career and how you got there? We are looking for parents and community members who might be willing to talk with our students for a few hours on Career Day - April 5, 2019. If you are interested, or know of someone who might be willing to help, please contact Mrs. Mueller at .

Transcripts that include your student's first semester of their senior year will be available once grades are released. Some colleges request these as an update on their applicants.
